Family integrated care

Health professionals in Colombian and many parts of the world, in some cases, work in precarious conditions and intend to migrate to other countries in search of better living conditions for themselves and their families, which results in inadequate distribution worldwide and in the quality of care throughout the health system, which can ultimately influence the quality of life of patients in their health-disease processes.

In The Netherlands about 70% of informal caregivers combine their caregiving activities with paid employment, and thus have to manage the boundaries between work and family roles. Our cross-sectional study examined whether employed informal caregivers differ from non-caring colleagues with respect to negative and positive spillover effects, health and work-related outcomes, use of formal support arrangements and experiences with a supportive work environment.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has endorsed six dimensions of patient-centredness as crucial to providing quality healthcare. These dimensions outline that care must be: 1) respectful to patients’ values, preferences, and expressed needs; 2) coordinated and integrated; 3) provide information, communication, and education; 4) ensure physical comfort; 5) provide emotional support—relieving fear and anxiety; and 6) involve family and friends.

Disadvantaged populations face many barriers to cancer care, including limited support in navigating through the complexities of the healthcare system. Family members play an integral role in caring for patients and provide valuable care coordination; however, the effect of family navigators on adherence to cancer screening has not previously been evaluated.

The number of children requiring long-term home ventilation has consistently increased over the last 25 years. Given the growing population of children with complex care needs (CCNs), this was an important area of focus within the Models of Child Health Appraised (MOCHA) project, funded by the European Union (EU) under the Horizon 2020 programme.

Admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) may disrupt parent-infant interaction with adverse consequences for infants and their families. Several family-centered care programs promote parent-infant interaction in the NICU; however, all of these retain the premise that health-care professionals should provide most of the infant’s care.

Social media optimization is in many ways connected as a technique to viral marketing where word of mouth is created not through friends or family but through the use of networking in social bookmarking, video and photo sharing websites. In a similar way the engagement with blogs achieves the same by sharing content through the use of RSS in the blogosphere and special blog search engines.

Over the last decade, the consumption of poultry products in developing countries has grown by 5.8 percent per annum, faster than that of human population growth, and has created a great increase in demand. Family poultry has the potential to satisfy at least part of this demand through increased productivity and reduced wastage and losses, yet still represent essentially low-input production systems.

In the area of human resources for health, the specialization of several key health services in Kenya has led to inequitable staff distribution at the facility level. Once provided in out-patient clinics, some services-including family planning, HIV testing care and support, TB treatment - have been moved to specialized sites in the health facility. In addition to meeting needs of patients, the appropriate re-integration of these services allows for more efficient use of health workers time.

Critical care nursing is a complex, challenging area of nursing practice, where clinical expertise is developed over time by integrating critical care knowledge, clinical skills, and caring practices. Finding a textbook that comprehensively yet succinctly presents essential information about how best to safely and competently care for critically ill patients and their families is a challenge for those charged with the education of new critical care practitioners.

Good communication between healthcare professionals and men with prostate cancer is essential. It should be supported by evidence-based written information tailored to the man's needs. Treatment and care, and the information men with prostate cancer are given about it, should be culturally appropriate. It should also be accessible to people with additional needs such as physical, sensory or learning disabilities, and to people who do not speak or read English.
