  • In rural India, the percentage of women who depend on agriculture for their livelihood is as high as 84%.Apart from participation in actual cultivation; women participate in various forms of processing and marketing of agricultural produce. Women accounted for 93% of total employment in dairy production. To begin with training programmes were started to self-help groups (SHG) on labour saving equipment, processing, value addition and storage of grains followed by model processing units establishment in rural areas. Workshops and melas were also conducted for empowerment of women in SHGs.

  • Capacity building in rural women through formation and strengthening of SHGs was experimented at Khagribari, Dhalaguru and Dhandingguri villages of Cooch Behar district of West Bengal during 2012-15 with an objective to motivate the rural women to involve in different rural development programmes. Before the start of the trial most of the women were mere housewife and performed agricultural and allied activities in their own farming situation. Many of them were not the member of any group or organization.

  • For the well-being or flourishing of farm women, the impact were assessed in the terms of social determinants viz., income well-being, self-esteem well-being, confidence well-being, capacity well-being, decision making, nutrition and health well-being and social empowerment etc. The study was carried out to Impact assessment of social determinants on psychological wellbeing of women. The results showed that the project under reference succeeded in increasing income, expenditure and saving of the respondents. It also provided additional and regular income to its beneficiaries.

  • The novel experiments was undertaken among 60 on-campus trainees and 60 off-campus trainees spread among three purposively selected villages under two blocks under the domain of KVK Jainagar, Koderma. The 20 on-campus trainees and 20 off campus trainees were selected randomly from each selected villages. For household income and food & nutritional security through women empowerment and to find better performance among the narmada nidhi and local non descript (ND) breed, 25 female and 5 male birds of each breed are distributed to 10 women’s of each 4 village in these 2 blocks for backyard rearing.

Agriculture helps in ensuring good nutrition and good nutrition builds human capital which is also an input for agro-production creating a circular pathway between agriculture and nutrition.

  • Gender Empowerment has been a highly focused area over three decades to empower women so that they can be made free from the mettle of exploitation, deprivation, and social impoverishment. The study was conducted in Haringhata Block under Nadia district of West Bengal.
