Farmer’s friendly approach

Field experiments were conducted in farmers holding during 2017-19 in view to develop ecofriendly strategies for the management of white grub in sugarcane crop. Various bio inoculants with required dose per hectare were prepared and multiplied in well decomposed farm yard manure of 50 kgs and mixed with 2500 kgs of decomposed FYM at the time of application for easy handling and applied near root zone during earthing up (during May/June).

Farmer Field School (FFS) is a participatory and interactive approach to social learning. It is an approach that puts together set of principles and techniques meant to systematically enhance farmers’ abilities to investigate, analyze, innovate and learn improved farming practices. The FFS provide an opportunity for farmers to learn together and test and adapt practices, using practical, hands-on methods of discovery learning that emphasize observation, discussion, analysis and collective decision making.

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici causing tomato wilt is a common soil borne fungus. Bio-control agents could be used as an eco-friendly approach to effectively control the disease and may be advised to the farmers for profitable organic farming. The fungal (Trichoderma harzianum) and bacterial (Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas fluorescens ) biological control agents were tested for their compatibility in vitro to determine whether they can be used in combination.

Integrated pest management (IPM) is an eco-friendly approach for management of pests by connecting biological, cultural and chemical tools to decrease economic, health and environmental hazards. The study assessed the chemical pesticide use in vegetable crops and prioritized the constraints for successful adoption of IPM practice in selected vegetable crops in peri-urban agriculture.

In India 82 per cent of farmers are small and marginal farmers whose acreage is less than 2 ha. These farmers play a pivotal role in Indian economy. Majority of these farmers practicing mono crop cultivation. Discouraging results of monoculturing (non-integrated system) on crop productivity, led to the development of integrated farming system (IFS) strategy which enables adequate income, employment, nutritional security and eco friendly. IFS has many advantages over the monoculturing.

The present study confirms the Presence of Nosema apis and European Foulbrood in Honey bee as a reason of the Collapsing Colony in north India condition, other pathogens like Varroa mite, Red ant, application of the hazardous pesticide, wax eating moth were not observed in the affected colony.

However, a specific feature of local Thai food markets is the coexistence of different environ- mentally friendly, healthy or hygienic labels. Therefore governmental institutions started differ- ent certification systems for different safe food products (Eischen, Prasertsri, and Sirikeratikul 2006). Safe Food labels were therefore introduced by the Thai Government. They are based on standards that have been agreed upon by both The Ministry of Public Health and The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
