Farmers and farm women

The pandemic has the potential to reduce gender gap in entrepreneurship by altering structural business dynamics. Women farmers come forward to set up new ventures for sustaining their livelihood, viz., transition of apparel designing to school uniform making, business to manufacturing of safety equipments (masks, gloves, PPE kits), preparation of sanitizers etc. Women entrepreneurs acquired new/modified their skills from the existing, redesigned their process of manufacturing and accelerated the adoption of technology to combat the crisis.

The present study was conducted to ascertain the Impact of Vocational Training programme on knowledge about mushroom production for Self-employment at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shivamogga district of Karnataka. The study revealed that exposure to training had increased the knowledge of farmers, farm women and youths regarding all the subcomponents of mushroom production.

In the present study, a total 124 participants were judged for their knowledge gain after training on Mushroom Production Technologies. The training programme on Mushroom Production technologies were arranged for rural youth, farmers and farm women of district Barnala, Punjab. Maximum knowledge gain (86.29 %) was observed in Button mushroom compost production technologies followed by 81.45 per cent knowledge gain in learning about the commercial varieties of mushrooms popular in northern India.

A Front Line Demonstration (FLD) on Demonstration of Nutri Farms for year round nutrition security among farm families was implemented by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bagalkot for the year 2018-19 in ten women farmers fields at Sunaga village of Bilagi taluak of Bagalkot district with an objective to improve the nutritional status of people vulnerable to micronutrient malnutrition by increasing the year round supply of a diverse range of fruit and vegetables from a household-managed garden.

In Rajasthan, dairying provides millions of marginal farmers and landless labourers for their livelihood so it is a major economic activity of rural people. The state faces constant drought and famine, which often leads to crop failure because most of the agriculture is fed with rain. The study was conducted among 80 female and 20 male farmers from two villages of namely Aminda Rangsagre and Aminda Simsanggre of Gambegre block of West Garo Hills who are doing vegetable cultivation were selected purposive sampling procedure. The study was limited to only weeding activity as women participation is more in this activity. Krishi Vigyan Kendras – KVKs (Farm Science Centres) had been established by Indian council of Agricultural Research (at present there are 695 KVKs under XI ATARIs). Imparting vocational trainings for entrepreneurship development for women, rural youth and farmers is one of the mandate of KVKs. In Bihar, Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) were registered as an autonomous institution and operationalized in four districts viz., Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Munger and Patna districts in year1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 respectively across the State. ATMA programme at present under implementation in all the 38 districts of the state. The ATMA programme several strategies followed such as mobilization of farmers and farm women are organised into FIGs/SHGs, providing them training on new technology and promoting them to start their own agri-enterprise.

A study was conducted in Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur to assess the problems faced by the trainees in utilizing knowledge gained in training programme. The respondents were purposively selected from the three training programmes conducted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur, one each on dairy, goatery and poultry farming. As per the guidelines in every training programme under the KVK a minimum of 25 trainees consisting of farmer, farm women or rural youth should participate.

A study was taken up among the farmers in the Tiruppur district to assess the determinants of gender in farming in dryland farming system. Totally three blocks were selected Purposively for the study in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu, The block such as Palladam, Pongallur, Kundadam have been selected. A sample of 30 land holding dryland farm women and 30 farm men from each block was purposefully selected.
