Farmers‟ attitude

This study explores the driving factors for farmers in sustainable paddy farming in Malaysia. The research is exploratory in nature, using interview and observation approaches. Three sustainability factors are focused in this study; namely the economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The results indicate that early exposure and knowledge, education and experience in sustainable agriculture are the driving force behind shifting attitudes towards sustainable agriculture and sustaining practices.

Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) are being established so that it can help farmers in earning more returns through collective input purchase, collective marketing, processing, increasing productivity through procuring better inputs, augmenting knowledge of farmers in better management practices and ensuring quality. An attempt was made to develop a standardized scale to analyze the attitude of members towards Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) using summated rating methods suggested by Likert and Edwards. The attitude scale developed was found to be highly reliable and valid.

The study showed that majority of the farmers (77%) have a favourable attitude towards ICTs followed by 14.25 per cent of the respondents have a highly favourable attitude and 8.75 per cent had least favourable attitudes. This means that there is a scope for higher usage of ICTs in disseminating the agriculture related information among the respondents. Similarly significant association had been found between attitude towards ICTs with age, educational qualification, organizational membership and extension contact.

This paper analyzes the attitude of farmers towards crop diversification in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. Census of India (2011) reported that about 54.60 per cent of the population involved in agriculture and allied activities. The total food grains production in the country was 284.83 million tons during the year of 2017-18. Crop diversification is one of the best options to increase income of the farmers and also leads to food, nutritional and ecological security.

The study was conducted in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh to study the attitude of farmers towards organic farming. In Jabalpur district there are 7 blocks, out of which Jabalpur block was selected randomly and Sihora block was selected purposively for the study because of having maximum registered farmer under organic farming as compared to other block. An attempt was made to develop a standardized scale to analyze the attitude of farmers towards livelihood diversificationusing summated rating methods suggested by Likert and Edwards. The attitude scale developed was found to be highly reliable and valid.
