  • Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is an OIE notifiable, highly contagious and fatal disease of small ruminants causing significant economic losses to the farmers in term of morbidity, mortality, preventive and treatment measures cost. The present study report three outbreaks of PPR in two districts of Punjab state affecting migratory flocks of goats in 2016-17. Younger animals were more susceptible to PPR than adults. None of the affected animals were vaccinated against PPR.

  • The study revealed that most of the sheep farmers in the western ghat region of Virudhunagar district belonged to age group of 35 to 50 years were illiterate and lived in a nucleus family. Nearly 86.29% of sheep farmers were landless but 89.63% owned house, average flock size was more than 50, and were maintained by grazing for more than 6 hours per day.

  • The present study was aimed at understanding the socio-economic conditions and adoption of sheep management practices in Karauli district of Rajasthan, India as it serves as a benchmark for evolving meaningful extension strategies and other policy interventions. The scenario in Karauli district revealed that sheep production is in the hands of traditional farmers; rearing under the extensive system of management. Most of the farmers had a poor socio-economic background with illiteracy. Majority is rearing a hairy coated dual purpose breed with small flock sizes ranging from 25 to 50 heads.

  • Poultry Farmers had high level of knowledge regarding poultry housing (39.17%), brooding (39.17%) and feeding (42.5%) practices. Considerable number of poultry farms has grown up in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan. Hence, the knowledge of poultry practices occupies the importance. The present study was concluded in Bhilwara District of Rajasthan on 120 poultry Farmers selected by multi-stage sampling procedure.

  • Bannur or Mandya sheep breed has been one of the most important and dominant indigenous breed of Karnataka. Bannur breed has been in limelight ever since its development and continues to be the only outstanding and the best Mutton breed of the State and Country. An exploratory research design was adopted to study the rearing pattern of Bannur sheep in its native tract and thus 200 respondents from Malavalli and Bannur villages were selected purposively for the study.

  • Contagious pustular dermatitis (CPD) is an acute, highly contagious, zoonotic, debilitating and economically important viral non-systematic eruptive skin disease of small ruminants. In this report, occurrence of atypical caprine contagious pustular dermatitis associated with pneumonia in a goat flock is described. An outbreak of pox like disease was noticed in four out of 18 non-descript goats during June 2018, in Erode district of Tamil Nadu. Affected animals showed multiple, discrete, edematous nodular lesions and crust formation throughout its body surface with respiratory symptoms.
