Umblachery cattle are well-known indigenous breed for its draught power in Cauvery delta region. Conservation of Umblachery cattle breed gained importance in recent years. In this background, the study with the financial assistance from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Research Corpus Fund (TRCF) was conducted at Umblachery, a native village of Umblachery breed tract in Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu to identify and prioritize the constraints in Umblachery breed cattle farming faced by farmers through participatory approach.

The current research was designed to study DNA sequence variation within Signal transducer and activator of trancription 1 (STAT1) gene and to find association of STAT1 gene variants (if any) with milk traits in Gaolao cattle. DNA was isolated from around 40 Gaolao cows from farmers herd and farm in breeding tract. The STAT1 gene regions of 314 bp, 850 bp and 154 bp fragments were amplified using STAT1G1, STAT1G2 and STAT1G4 primers respectively.

Bannur or Mandya sheep breed has been one of the most important and dominant indigenous breed of Karnataka. Bannur breed has been in limelight ever since its development and continues to be the only outstanding and the best Mutton breed of the State and Country. An exploratory research design was adopted to study the rearing pattern of Bannur sheep in its native tract and thus 200 respondents from Malavalli and Bannur villages were selected purposively for the study.

Designing of effective conservation policy necessitates a clear understanding of the socio-economic factors that leads to the adoption of a particular cattle breed by the dairy farmers. The present study uses descriptive statistics and discriminant analysis to identify the socioeconomic determinants of breed choice with specific reference to Sahiwal breed.Prominent breeding tract of Sahiwal in India was purposively selected as the study area and required primary data was collected from 168 dairy farmers comprising 84 Sahiwal rearing farmers and 84 crossbred rearing farmers.
