In this report, uniform PB microcubes and carbon microspheres were used as potential templates for the fabrication of 3D porous Fe2O3 nanostructures. The 3D sponge-like γ-Fe2O3 nanocubes were formed by the assembly of numerous fine nanoparticles through the simultaneous oxidative decomposition of PB.

A mass-type sensor was prepared by coating γFe2O3 NPs on the active electrode of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). The obtained results of the γ-Fe2O3 NPs based QCM sensor indicate the high response and good repeatability toward SO2 gas in the range of 2.5 – 20 ppm at room temperature.

A method for preconcentration of Al(III) prior to its determination by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) was developed because the sensitivity of ICP-OES is insufficient for trace-level measurement of Al(III). The method is based on the use of Coriolus versicolor-immobilized γ-Fe2O3 magnetic nanoparticles as a solid phase sorbent. The best experimental conditions were found as pH 6.0, 2.0 mL/min flow rate, 100 mg amount of C. versicolor on 150 mg of γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles, and 500 mL of sample volume. This work reports an electrochemical sensor with a modified glassy carbon electrode for the detection of kaempferol. The method was tailored by the immobilization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) assimilated with Fe2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) onto the electrode surface to detect kaempferol using differential pulse voltammetry. Thermogravimetric, transmission electron microscopic, cyclic, and differential voltammetric techniques were employed to characterize the developed electrochemical sensor. The kaempferol produces an anodic quasireversible peak at pH 6.

In the present study, we successfully prepared two different electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based-activated carbon nanofiber (ACNF) composites by incorporation of well-distributed Fe2O3 and Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs). The influence of metal oxide on the structural, morphological, and textural properties of final composites was thoroughly investigated. The results showed that the morphological and textural properties could be easily tuned by changing the metal oxide NPs.

Magnetic and nonmagnetic activated carbons (ACs) were successfully prepared by using AC obtained from spent coffee grounds (SCGs) for use in CO2 and CH4 capture. SCGs were activated by chemical activation to produce ACs and a magnetic α-Fe2O3/AC composite was prepared by coprecipitation method from the ACs produced. Magnetic and nonmagnetic samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) techniques.

CuxMg1.xFe2O4 nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by coprecipitation. The samples were calcined at 900 oC for 3 h and X-ray diffraction analysis showed that Cu0.5Mg0.5Fe2O4 had a single phase cubic spinel structure, while formation of secondary phase of Fe2O3 was observed in XRD patterns of CuFe2O4, MgFe2O4. The saturation magnetization (Ms) of Cu0.5Mg0.5Fe2O4 is in between the saturation magnetization values of CuFe2O4 and MgFe2O4 nanoparticles, CuFe2O4 is a ferromagnetic material, while MgFe2O4 and Cu0.5Mg0.5Fe2O4 show superparamagnetic behavior.

The interaction of metal oxide nanoparticles with plants has not been extensively studied. An attempt has been made to examine the potential variation in peanut plant leaves due to the application of Fe2O3 nanoparticle by pre-sowing technique and to compare with its bulk counterpart. Fe2O3 nanoparticle was synthesized by chemical route and characterized using X-ray diffraction, atomic force and scanning electron microscopy. The Fe2O3 nanoparticle and its bulk counterpart are applied to the peanut seeds by pre-soaking method at two different concentrations: 500 and 4000 ppm.
