  • The first edition of the Essential Guide to Food Additives was published in 2000, and its success merited the production of a second edition, which was published in 2003. The book continues to be a valuable reference tool for the food industry into the applications and legal restrictions governing food additives. A general discussion on the use of food additives is provided, with the addition of a section on the new trend in clean labelling, and how additives can be used to best effect to fit consumer demand for clean labels.

  • Negative energy balance (NEB) is an imbalance between energy intake and energy requirements for lactation and body maintenance affecting high-yielding dairy cows and is of considerable economic importance due to its negative impact on fertility and health in dairy herds. It is anticipated that the cow hypothalamus experiences extensive biochemical changes during the early post partum period in an effort to re-establish metabolic homeostasis. However, there is variation in the tolerance to NEB between individual cows.

  • Overfeeding reduces laying performance in broiler breeder hens, which is associated with obesity, hepatic steatosis and systemic inflammation. To unravel the underlying mechanisms governing the effect of feeding regimes on energy metabolism and egg production, a transcriptomics approach was carried out for screening differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in ovary, liver and adipose tissues of broiler chickens under ad libitum and restricted feeding.

  • The rearing and marketing of capons, a traditional culture, is restricted only to the Tribal and Adivasi communities of Assam. They used to rear the caponized indigenous chicken traditionally with no supplemented feed in the backyard for holy purposes. No recordable experiment has been found to be undertaken scientifically on production potentiality of rearing indigenous chicken cockerels till today even at national level.

  • Our data suggest that a restricted high-fat diet feeding shows an obvious effect on the change of body weight as well as on the alteration of adipose tissue size and weight. Hence, the restricted high-fat diet feeding may be used as a promise method to induce obese model at least partly in mouse.

  • In a CRD model, thirty two ram labs (ave. 3 months age) were randomly divided into 4 groups with 8 lambs in each group and was allotted to one of the following dietary regimes in which the feed restriction was followed at 4 levels (%) viz- 0 (control-T1), 10(T2), 20(T3) and 30(T4). Restriction was done for 8 weeks followed by realimentation for 4 weeks.

  • In a Completely Randomized Design, thirty two ram lambs (11.3 kg ±0.3) were tested with four feeding regimes to evaluate the effect of feed restriction followed by realimentation on plane of nutrition and carcass parameters. A 8 week restriction period was followed by a 4 week realimentation phase and the animals divided into 4 groups (T1 to T4) were subjected to feed restriction at 0, 10, 20, and 30 percent, respectively. After realimentation period, slaughtered animals were studied for carcass parameters.

  • The present investigation was conducted to study the effects of different housing systems on growth performance, feed consumption, morbidity and mortality of broiler rabbits in semi arid region of North Gujarat. Total 24 weaned rabbits (28 days age) were randomly divided in two housing treatments, T1 (Cage housing) and T2 (Deep litter housing system). The duration of experiment was 8 weeks. Dimensions of cage were 3×2×2 feet (3 rabbits/cage) whereas, in deep litter, 12 rabbits were kept in 24 square feet area (2 square feet/rabbit).

  • Building upon the FeedTree distribution system, we foresee a potential for entirely new services based on RSS which cannot be accomplished today. By using single-writer logs [18] in combination with a distributed storage mechanism such as a DHT [22, 15, 9], we can record permanently every RSS item published, allowing a distributed archival store of micronews across the In- ternet. Clients of such a system would easily be able to find out what they “missed” if they had been offline for so long that old RSS items are no longer available in any conventional, static RSS feed.

  • Several online RSS service providers (essentially, Web- based RSS readers) have proposed alternative solu- tions [2, 3]. In these “outsourced aggregation” scenar- ios, a centralized service provides a remote procedure interface which end-user applications may be built upon (or refactored to use). Such an application would store all its state—the set of subscribed feeds, the set of “old” and “new” entries—on the central server. It would then poll only this server to receive all updated data.

  • Although cost-effectiveness is one guiding rationale for deter- mining resource allocations for expanding (or restricting) access to CAM and TM, additional societal benefits and costs, such as effects on biodiversity, must also be considered. CAM and TM could provide a rationale for conserving species, but overharvesting of endangered species for medicinal purposes is also a concern.
