Nonunion of femoral shaft fractures in children is rare, and there is no clear treatment protocol. In this case report, a pediatric femoral shaft fracture that developed in nonunion due to vitamin deficiency after osteosynthesis, which was successfully treated with vitamin augmentation and replacement with a rigid antegrade intramedullary nail, is described.

Two objectives: Establish the procedure for interlocking intramedullary nailing without opening the fracture site under the intensifying screen. Evaluate the results of treatment for femoral shaft fractures with the method of interlocking intramedullary nailing without opening the fracture site and compare to the method of interlocking nailing opening the fracture site.

Purtscher’s retinopathy is a sight threatening, occlusive microvasculopathy associated with trauma, it is rarely reported after long bone fractures. Patients suffering from perioperative loss of vision have to be referred for ophthalmological and neurological assessment as soon as possible. History of trauma and visual loss can point to the diagnosis of Purtscher’s retinopathy.

There is evidence that postmenopausal women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on glucocorticoid (GC) therapy and bisphosphonate (BP) have an increased risk for atypical subtrochanteric and atypical diaphyseal femoral fracture (AFF). The underlying mechanism has not been elucidated so far.

Femoral shaft fractures represent common fractures of the lower limb in the paediatric population. The objectives of our study were to analyse the static plantar pressure and functional capacity in children with surgically treated unilateral femoral shaft fractures, 1 month after the metallic implant removal.

Gnathodiaphyseal dysplasia (GDD) is an extremely rare autosomal dominant disease characterized by cemento-osseous lesions in the jawbones, bone fragility, and diaphyseal sclerosis of the tubular bones. Patients with GDD are prone to sustain fractures by minor accidents. Although over 80 cases have been reported, detailed information about the orthopedic treatment of the fractures is limited.

Atrophic nonunion of femoral shaft fracture after intramedullary (IM) nailing is uncommon. The treatment for femoral shaft aseptic atrophic non-union remained controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the surgical results between exchanging reamed nailing (ERN) and augmentative antirotational plating (AAP) for femoral shaft aseptic atrophic nonunion.

Bisphosphonate (BP) therapy has been associated with atypical femur fracture (AFF). However, the threshold of treatment duration leading to increased AFF risk is unclear. In a retrospective cohort of older women initiating BP, we compared the AFF risk associated with treatment for at least three years to the risk associated with treatment less than three years.

To assess the effectiveness of self-made reduction brace in the fixation of femoral shaft fracture by the intramedullary nail with lock. Subjects and methods: A prospective study on 62 patients with 63 femoral shaft fractures fixed by the self-made locked intramedullary nail without opening the fracture at the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics, Saint Paul Hospital, from January 2013 to December 2015.

Femoral shaft fractures are common in both the young and elderly due to high-impact trauma and low-impact trauma, respectively. Its treatment by indirect reduction through use of locking compression plates (LCPs) has been on the rise. The LCP possess several advantages in fracture fixation, combining angular stability through use of locking screws with misalignment correction and fracture reduction onto the plate through use of conventional screws.
