Ebook "Novel catalysts in advanced oxidation of organic pollutants" summarizes the role of certain catalysts and associated processes that are involved in the reduction or elimination of hazardous substances from wastewater and the exploitation of renewable raw materials. The authors begin by providing a summary of the most recent developments in catalysts used in the advanced oxidation of organic pollutants in aqueous phase. Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPS) are described in terms of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts.

In this paper, we discuss the efficiency of using a Fe2V4O13 catalyst in a heterogeneous Fenton-like process for the degradation and mineralization of Ind. We examined various factors that influence the reaction, such as the initial pH of the reaction mixture, the initial concentration of hydrogen peroxide, the amount of the Fe2V4O13 catalyst, and the reaction temperature was investigated.

In this study, a composite material (ACS) was successfully synthesized from activated carbon (AC) derived from soybean curd and sludge from the supply water treatment process using FeCl3. Subsequently, the ACS was employed as a heterogeneous catalyst for the degradation of Paracetamol (PRC) in solutions under conditions of the Fenton process.

RTW photodegradation experiments exhibited removal efficiencies of 53.25 % for apparent color, and 64.55 % for turbidity. Phytotoxicity assays using cucumber seeds showed low toxicity of the samples after photodegradation, which indicated that toxic compounds were fully mineralized.

Oxidation of bisphenol-A (BPA) was investigated using a sonophoto Fenton-like hybrid process under visible light irradiation in the presence of iron-containing perovskite LaFeO3 catalysts. For this purpose, firstly the perovskite catalyst (LaFeO3) was prepared by the sol-gel method and calcined at different temperatures (500, 700, and 800◦C). The prepared catalysts were characterized using XRD, SEM, FTIR, nitrogen adsorption, UV-vis DRS, and ICP/OES measurements.

In the current research, the sulfonated metal–organic framework loaded on iron oxide nanoparticles, Fe3O4@MIL100(Fe)-OSO3H, has been synthesized and utilized as a Fenton-like catalyst for the decolorization of aqueous solutions containing methyl orange (MO) dye as a model organic pollutant. The morphology and structure of the catalyst were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy.

In this work, a system combining two advanced oxidation processes, namely electroFenton (EF) in which the hydroxyl radical OH is generated by reactions on the cathode and anodic oxidation (AO) in which OH is produced directly on the anode, was studied to evaluate the treatment of methylene blue (MB) dye in aqueous solution.

The complete treatment of colors and hazardous substances at a reasonable cost is of particular interest in the textile industry. In this batch form study, dye solution and textile dyeing wastewater were successfully treated by Fenton technology combining Moving Bed Reactor/Activated carbon (Fenton-MBR/AC) system. The optimum operating conditions including 3.5 of pH value, 0.5 of Fe/H2O2 ratio, 25mL of H2O2 (30%) solution, and 200mL of sample were found. After 60 min, the color removal and efficiency of COD treatment was 94% and 89%, respectively.

Leachate is a noticeable pollution problem because it contains a considerable amount of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). If leachate isn't treated thoroughly, its leak will negatively affect the environment. Therefore, appropriate treatment technologies are required to remove them. Bio-Electro-Fenton (BEF) is a new method using microorganisms such as electrolytes to convert chemical energy into electricity to help create H2O2 support advanced oxidation process (AOPs).

Iron-based nanocatalysts are known as a new generation heterogeneous Fenton catalyst, replacing the traditional Fenton catalyst system which has many disadvantages in experimental processes and industrial applications. In this study, we focused on the preparation of iron nanoparticles and their use when embedded in traditional supports, as well as tested their catalytic activity by modified Fenton-type oxidation of methylene blue (MB) substrate.

In this paper, oxidation of red methyl (MR) - an azo in dye by UV / H2O2 was studied. The effect of solution volume and initial concentration was studied. Under optimal conditions, project a UV light through the bottom of the solution containing MR. The rate of color change is proportional to the increase of H2O2 concentration. After 50 minutes, the decolorization effect with 16 ppm H2O2 is 38%, slightly higher than the content of 14 ppm H2O2.

Graphene-based composites have received a great deal of attention in recent year because the presence of graphene can enhance the conductivity, strength of bulk materials and help create composites with superior qualities. Moreover, the incorporation of metal oxide nanoparticles such as Fe3O4 can improve the catalytic efficiency of composite material.

The degradation of aqueous diazinon from an aqueous solution using H2O2/Fe2+ process is performed in a 1L batch chemical reactor. The extent of diazinon degradation (20 mg/L) has been investigated from a known initial pH solution, temperature and catalyst type (Fe2+, Fe3+) and for various initial concentrations of diazinon, H2O2 and Fe2+.

This study investigated the Photo-Fenton process in textile wastewater treatment by using textile synthesis wastewater made of Symafix Red Dye solution. The aim of the study was to investegate the factors that influent to the photo-Fenton process such as contact time, pH, H2O2 and Fe2+conectrations, and UVexposure in order to research the optimum values of this process.Treatment of textile wastewater was carried out at ambient temperature in a batch reactor.

An additional benefit of hydrogen peroxide and Fenton's Reagent is the temporary increase of oxygen levels in and around the treatment area. The increased oxygen levels at the fringes of the treatment area can enhance naturally occurring aerobic biodegradation processes that reduce contaminant mass. While there may be concerns about oxidizing hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria in the chemical oxidation treatment area, many studies have shown that soil cannot be readily sterilized by Fenton's Reagent and that microbial populations rapidly rebound following chemical oxidation treatment.

Controlled oxidation is increasingly being practiced using solid peroxides, pH modifiers, and catalysts that promote the generation of free radicals. This new approach moderates the rate of dissolution and peroxide generation, which in turn controls that rate of reaction between peroxide and the petroleum contaminants. The use of slurried peroxides creates the opportunity to release oxidants and oxygen over a longer period, which can promote subsequent aerobic remediation.

Hydrogen peroxide and catalyst solutions needed for Fenton's Reagent are usually added to the treatment area by pressure injection into one or more designated chemical oxidation injection wells, or gravity injection into one or more monitoring or other wells. In pressure injection, compressed air is used to sparge the ferrous iron catalyst and relatively large volumes of peroxide solution (e.g., hundreds to thousands of gallons) into the contaminated soil and groundwater over a short period of time (e.g., days).

Difficulty in addressing contamination in low permeability soils may be alleviated to some degree by controlled pneumatic or hydraulic fracturing of the soil. However, engineered hydraulic fractures generally cannot be spaced more closely than about 5 feet, which means that chemical oxidants must still penetrate a substantial thickness of low permeability soil to come into contact with the contamination. Deep soil mixing with large diameter drill augers is the most effective method currently available to increase contact between adsorbed contaminants and the oxidants.
