Laboratory-scale experiments were carried out to improve the strength of prestressed steel by combination of the Cr-Ti alloying and heat treatment. A predetermined amount of the scrap and some ferrous alloys (such as FeMn, FeSi, FeCr and FeTi) was melted in the induction furnace to obtain the aimed compositions of the steel ASTM A633 grade C and the modified steel with Cr-Ti alloying.

The last edition of the Handbook was published in 1994 and like all the earlier editions, it aimed to provide a practical reference book for all those involved in making castings in any of the commonly used alloys by any of the usual moulding methods. In order to keep the Handbook to a reasonable size, it was not possible to deal with all the common casting alloys in detail. Since 1994 the technology of casting has continued to develop and has become more specialised so that it has been decided to publish the 11th edition of the Handbook in three...

Material Selection. The material systems currently in commercial use include ferrous alloys (low-alloy steel, stainless steels, soft magnetic alloys), nonferrous alloys (brass, bronze), tungsten carbide, pure nickel, electronic alloys (Invar, Kovar), and tungsten-copper composites. The physical and mechanical properties of several MIM engineering alloys (low-alloy steel and stainless steels) have been standardized by MPIF (Ref 10).
