Fiber initiation

The cultivated tetraploid cotton species (AD genomes) was originated from two ancestral diploid species (A and D genomes). While the ancestral Agenome species produce spinnable fibers, the D- genome species do not. Cotton fibers are unicellular trichomes originating from seed coat epidermal cells, and currently there is an immense interest in understanding the process of fiber initiation and development.

Results revealed that different biofertilizer treatments increased the microbial counts (total microbial counts, azotobacter, azospirilla, phosphate dissolving bacteria (PDB) and VAM), the growth parameters (plant height, stem diameter, initiative branching point, number of branches, fresh weight and dry weight) and some chemical constituents such as total chlorophyll, crude protein, crude fiber and ash% compared to untreated plants.

One RC column without being strengthened is referred as the control specimen whereas two other RC columns were partially strengthened by CFRP sheets. All three RC columns were axially loaded with the same initial eccentricity e0 of 80 mm. Based on the test results such as the ultimate load-carrying capacity, the load-rotation relationship, and load-curvature at the middle of column height, the effectiveness of the strengthening technique is discussed.

Improving the yield and fiber quality of upland cotton is a goal of plant breeders. However, increasing the yield and quality of cotton fibers is becoming more urgent. While the growing human population needs more cotton fiber, climate change is reducing the amount of land on which cotton can be planted, or making it difficult to ensure that water and other resources will be available in optimal quantities.

Cotton is the most essential textile crop worldwide, and phytohormones are critical for cotton fiber development. One example is the role of auxin in fiber initiation, but we know little molecular basis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have a significant function in cotton development; nevertheless their role in fiber initiation remains unclear.

Cotton fiber is a model system for studying plant cell development. At present, the functions of many transcription factors in cotton fiber development have been elucidated, however, the roles of auxin response factor (ARF) genes in cotton fiber development need be further explored.

Cotton fibers provide a powerful model for studying cell differentiation and elongation. Each cotton fiber is a singular and elongated cell derived from epidermal-layer cells of a cotton seed. Efforts to understand this dramatic developmental shift have been impeded by the difficulty of separation between fiber and epidermal cells.

Patellar sleeve avulsion fracture in a patient with Sinding-Larsen-Johansson syndrome: A case report
Patellar sleeve avulsion (PSA) fractures are rare injuries that occur in in skeletally immature patients. Initial diagnosis is key to a successful outcome, as these injuries are easily overlooked on plain radiographs with poor results well documented from delayed management.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a debilitating disease of the pleural cavity. It is primarily associated with previous inhalation of asbestos fibers. These fibers initiate an oxidant coupled inflammatory response.

Silica and asbestos are recognized lung carcinogens. However, their role in carcinogenesis at other organs is less clear. Clearance of inhaled silica particles and asbestos fibers from the lungs may lead to translocation to sites such as the bladder where they may initiate carcinogenesis.

This study was carried out to determine the suitability of sago starch blended with acrylamide as paper additive. Solutions of unmodified and blended sago starch with acrylamide, were prepared at 5% weight over volume (w/v) basis before the basic properties (i.e., pH, viscosity and solid content) were determined. The starches were then used to coat on laboratory made handsheets from recycled pulps. Various effects were studied, namely, modification of sago starch, addition of different types of initiator and further curing at different temperatures.

Fig fruit (Ficus carica) are the rich source of minerals, vitamins, and fiber. The moisture content of the ripen fig fruit is about 86 percent due to its high moisture content the fig fruit is readily prone to the attack of yeast and mould. In this study the fig fruit were cut in to slices and dehydrated by osmotic dehydration process. This process is preferred over others due to it is an energy intensive process with retention of initial fruit characteristics viz., aroma, texture, colour and nutritional composition.

Flax fiber (Linen fiber), a valuable and inexpensive material was used as sorbent material in the uptake of uranium ion for the safe disposal of liquid effluent. Flax fibers were characterized using BET, XRD, TGA, DTA and FTIR analyses, and the results confirmed the ability of flax fiber to adsorb uranium. The removal efficiency reached 94.50% at pH 4, 1.2 g adsorbent dose and 100 min in batch technique. Adsorption results were fitted well to the Langmuir isotherm. The recovery of U (VI) to form yellow cake was investigated by precipitation using NH4OH (33%).

Wheat is qualitatively a vital source of macromolecule, energy and fiber for human nutrition since decades hence, used as a staple food grain for community and as well a major source of fodder for animal feeding. Assessment of genetic diversity using molecular markers is used for characterization of different genotypes with reliable and authentic results. RAPD is a PCR based molecular technique for identification of genetic variability in similar genotypes. It usually preferred for the initiation of this kind of work as this technique is simple, versatile and relatively inexpensive.

Thirty five genotypes of dolichos bean (Dolichos lablab L. var. typicus Prain) germplasm lines were evaluated for nutritive value of protein and fiber content in pods at Vegetable Research Station, Agriculture Research Institute, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during August, 2016 to March, 2017. Genetic improvement in dolichos bean crop is a continuous demand for protein content of pods for different agro-climatic regions.

This paper presents an experimental study for the structural performance of reinforced concrete (RC) exterior beam–column joints rehabilitated using carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). The present experimental program consists of testing 10 half-scale specimens divided into three groups covering three possible defects in addition to an adequately detailed control specimen. The considered defects include the absence of the transverse reinforcement within the joint core, insufficient bond length for the beam main reinforcement and inadequate spliced implanted column on the joint.

Fibrous properties of rayon has been modified through synthesis of graft copolymers of rayon with acrylonitrile (AN) by chemical method using ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN/HNO3) as a redox initiator and gamma radiation mutual method. Percentage of grafting (Pg) was determined as a function of initiator concentration, monomer concentration, irradiation dose, temperature, time of reaction and the amount of water. Maximum percentage of grafting (160.01%) using CAN/HNO3 was obtained at [CAN] = 22.80 • 103 mol/L, [HNO3] = 112.68 • 102 mol/L and [AN] = 114.

Fibers of cultivated cotton are classified into two types, lint and fuzz. Fuzzless seeds are cotton seeds lacking fuzz on almost the whole surface of the seed except for small amounts of fuzz at the micropylar or chalazal regions. Fuzzless seeds provide a number of advantages such as avoiding delintation processes and increasing the quality of feed rations.
