  • A finite element model using a multi-fiber approach is proposed in this paper for the analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) members using fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcements, with a specific focus on the effect of pure torsion. The proposed model is formulated using a displacement-based approach and a kinematic assumption involving a twonode Timoshenko beam.

  • The effect of temperature on the electrical resistivity of high-performance fiber-reinforced concretes (HPFRCs) was highlighted in this investigation through an experimental approach. Generally, the temperature exhibited a considerable effect on the electrical resistivities of cement-based composites.

  • Steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) is a multiple-composite material developed during the early 1970s. In SFRC, short steel fibers are randomly distributed in concrete. Steel fibers can prevent the development of micro-cracks inside the concrete and reduce the expansion and development of the macro-cracks, thus enhance mechanical performance of SFRC. However, there is lack of studies on the influence of flowability of fresh SFRC on the steel fiber distribution patterns and mechanical properties of hardened SFRC.

  • Tensile properties of strain-hardening fiber-reinforced concrete are the key engineering parameters in determining bending resistance of the material. In this paper, an analytical model to predict tensile properties of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete, a type of strain-hardening fiber-reinforced concretes, was performed based on single fiber pullout test.

  • The present research aims to investigate the influence of the ratio of reinforced concrete layer height to total height (h/H) on the mechanical properties of functionally graded concrete (FGC) containing fly ash (Fa) and polypropylene (PP) fiber. All FGC samples were prepared with a constant water-to-cementitious materials ratio of 0.36 and ordinary Portland cement was replaced with Fa at 20% by mass.

  • This paper analyzes the effect of temperature on steel fibers pull-out mechanism from a high strength concrete matrix and its contribution to the residual mechanical behavior of Steel Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete (SFRHSC). Pull-out tests of straight and hooked end fibers and uniaxial tension tests on the fiber filaments exposed to room and high temperature (300 C, 375 C and 475 C) were performed. Additionally, two SFRHSC incorporating 30 kg/m3 and 60 kg/m3 of hooked end steel fibers and a plain High Strength Concrete (HSC) exposed to the same temperatures were studied.

  • This research presents a structural design of high-level waste (HLW) container using ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHP-FRC) material. The proposed design aims to overcome the drawbacks of the existing concrete containers which are heavy, difficult to fabricate, and expensive. In this study, the dry storage container (DSC) that commonly used at Canadian Nuclear facilities is selected to present the proposed design.

  • Fiber Reinforced Polymers are by no means new to this world. It is only because of our fascination with petrochemical and non-petrochemical products that these wonderful materials exist. In fact, the polymers can be considered and used in the construction and construction repair. The petrochemical polymers are of low cost and are used more that natural materials.

  • Not all materials can be etched in an easy and cheap way. Especially, noble metals or tantalum are stable against most of these corrosive structuring methods. Hence, precision machining may be used to generate microstructures from these metals as well as from standard metal alloys such as stainless steel or hastelloy. Depending on the material, precision machining can be performed by spark erosion (wire spark erosion and countersunk spark erosion), laser machining or mechanical precision machining.
