The study was undertaken to evaluate the magnitude of heterosis in 36 cotton hybrids developed by crossing 3 lines and 12 testers in L x T design at three different locations of Maharashtra State viz., Akola, Amravati and Nagpur during kharif, 2017-18. The cross AKH 8828 x AKH 9916 exhibited highest and significant heterosis over the check PKV Hy-2 for seed cotton yield/plant (60.30 %), number of bolls/plant (23.55 %) and fibre strength (10.43 %) across the environments.

The relatively low crop yields may be attributed to non availability of improved cultivars, poor crop husbandry practices and exposure to number of biotic and abiotic stresses in the environment. Therefore, there is an urgent necessity to develop high yielding varieties of pigeon pea. However, no systematic efforts were made so far to document the nutritional composition among the pigeon pea germplasm collection.

One of the most noticeable bast fibre crops is roselle, which is widely grown in Assam. The scientific name for Roselle is Hibiscus sabdariffa L., and the plant is from the Malvacea family. Roselle found abundantly in tropical areas. It is a perennial shrub yielding fibre from the bark of the canes which provides excellent raw material for blending with the natural and synthetic fibres. It is an annual, erect, bushy, herbaceous sub shrub that can grow up to 8 ft (2.4m) tall and diameter of stem 2.0-4.0 cm at three different levels, viz.

An experiment was conducted during kharif 2013 and 2014 in North Coastal Zone of Andhra Pradesh at Agricultural Research Station, Ragolu, Srikakulam district to study the genetic parameters like variability, heritability, genetic advance, correlation and path analysis for fibre yield and eleven component traits in a set of 60 genotypes of roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.). Phenotypic as well as genotypic coefficients of variability were high for the important productivity characters like green weight (leafless) plant-1 , dry stick weight plant-1 and fibre yield plant-1 .

Casuarinas are among the most important tree species for the production of high yielding wood biomass for fibre, rayon and energy needs. Among the 96 species of trees and shrubs in the family Casuarinaceae, Casuarina equisetifolia has gained much attention due to its multiple end-uses. India is the largest Casuarina growing country in the world, with an estimated 800,000 ha of plantations. About 500,000 ha are planted with Casuarina in the coastal states of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry

Jute cultivation is a labour-intensive activity. Small and marginal farmers extensively practice high density sowing (HDS) by broadcasting jute seed. High plant stand due to HDS at emergence increases major operational expenses of weeding and thinning, sorting and fibre extraction. To investigate effects of low density sowing (LDS)on production potential of fibre and green biomass and possible reduction in man-days and cost of cultivation, field experiment was conducted at ICAR-CRIJAF farm and it was also repeated through farmers’ field trials in four different locations

Seed cotton yield and fibre quality traits are governed by polygenes and these traits are highly influenced by the environment. Hence, selection merely based on yield is not effective. In order to enhance the yield potential of the cotton varieties, knowledge on the direct contribution of different characters to yield would be highly important for formulating a selection programme.

Cotton, the major fibre crop of India grown mainly under the rainfed condition often faces multi-nutritional deficiencies. This experiment was conducted during the Kharif season of 2016-17 on to find out the best performing nutrient combination for rainfed cotton in which sulphur, zinc and FYM based nutrient management regime, as well as customized fertilizer, were evaluated.

The upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) accounts for about 95% of world cotton production. Improving upland cotton cultivars has been the focus of worldwide cotton breeding programs. In cotton, seed cotton yield, yield contributing and fibre quality traits are under the control of polygenes or quantitative trait locus (QTL), for these traits QTL analysis holds a great promises these are the genomic regions that links the information between phenotypic (trait measurement) and genetic data (molecular markers) and explain the genetic basis of variation in complex traits.

In this context Mahalanobis D2 statistic is an effective tool in quantifying the degree of divergence at genetic level and also provides quantitative measure of association between geographic and genetic diversity based on generalized distance (Mahalanobis, 1936). The present study was carried out to ascertain the nature and magnitude of genetic divergence among 52rosellegenotypes.

Balanced fertilizer application is important for sustaining the productivity of ramie since the nutrient requirement of the crop is quite high due to its high biomass production. The present experiment was conducted at Nagaon, Assam, India from 2007 to 2009 to study the effect of varying levels of inorganic fertilizer nitrogen alone or in combination with crop residue, i.e., ramie waste on fibre yield and nutrient uptake by ramie, soil fertility and SOC concentration.

Ex Engelm.). It was observed that interaction of drip-irrigation @ 4 l/hr for 2 hrs at 2 weeks interval during 14-23 standard meteorological week (SMW) x micronutrients (zinc sulphate @ 20 kg + borax 15 kg/ha) produced the longest leaf (97.2.

Cotton is a very important commercial crop of India and to the world. Essentially used for fibre, fuel and edible oil and various other purposes. It is important because it is cash crop to the farmers. Out of 30 diseases known to occur in cotton crop from time to time, the bacterial blight is the most wide spread and destructive disease reported to cause yield losses of about 10 to 30 per cent.
