Filter paper enzyme activity

In this study we examined diversity and activities of some actinomycetes isolated from mangroves in Giao Thuy, Nam Dinh Province. The distribution of actinomycetes in soil is strongly affected by external factors. Extra-cellular enzyme producing ability of mangrove actinomycetes is very high, particularly the ability of producing cellulase degrading filter paper (122/128 strains), CMC (110/128 strains), protease (83/128 strains) and amylase (78/128 strains).

Cellulose constitutes bulk of the plant cell wall materials and the most abundant and renewable non-fossil carbon source on earth. Cellulose degrading fungi play an important role in recycling of cellulosic materials. Thus, this study was designed to screen endophytic fungi isolated from Cameroonian medicinal plants for their cellulase activity. The plate-clearing assay and enzyme assay methods were used for screening of potent cellulolytic endophytic fungi. The promising was chosen for filter paper cellulase (FPCase) and carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) assay.

Cellulose is the most important component of lignocellulose, and its degradation requires three different types of enzymes to act synergistically. There have been reports of single gene duality, but no gene has been described to have more than two functions.
