Suffusion, one of the primary types of internal erosion, preferentially erodes fine grains inside the skeleton of coarse particles due to interstitial permeability. The occurrence of suffusion damages earthen dams and affects the living environment around these structures.

High levels of fine (PM2.5) and ultrafine (PM0.1) particles in the atmosphere can cause adverse effects on the environment and human health. This study aims at determining the mass concentrations of PM and meteorological influencing factors in high pollution event days in Ha Noi.

Suffusion is one of the four types of internal erosion and accounts for 46% of erosion phenomena in earth dams. Suffusion is an erosion of fine particles inside the soil structure that move out of the voids between coarse particles caused by permeability flow. Identification of internal erosion is necessary to mitigate the loss of humans and property as underground erosion occurs.

The new flotation system for separation of activated carbon powder (ACP) from aqueous solution by using poly γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) is proposed in this study. Firstly, γ-PGA was added as flotation agent (both collector agents of ACP and bubble agents). Air was bubbled into the solution, which generates the foam that carries the ACP adsorbed PGA from the solution to the surface.

The present study sought to clarify the contributions to PM mass of ultrafine, fine (PM2.5), and coarse particles (PM10 – PM2.5) in an urban–industrial area with multiple emission sources. We performed both online measurements of PM at a high temporal resolution and size-resolved offline measurements.

This study aimed to assess the exposure of PM2.5 to motorcyclists and cyclists on some roads in Hanoi. Personal exposure samples were taken by the Airbeam sensor. Preliminary results showed that the exposure concentration of PM2.5 for cyclists (105 µg/m3 ) was higher than for motorcyclists (95 µg/m3 ) and level of PM2.5 in ambient air (34 µg/m3 ).

Aerosol delivery through a nasal high flow (NHF) system is attractive for clinicians as it allows for simultaneous administration of oxygen and inhalable drugs. However, delivering a fine particle fraction (FPF, particle wt. fraction < 5.0 μm) of drugs into the lungs has been very challenging, with highest value of only 8%.

This paper presents data on the size distribution and concentration of particulate matters (PM0.1, PM0.5, PM1, PM2.5, PM10, TSP) in indoor and outdoor air at a residential apartment in two seasons (winter and summer) in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. These particles with different sizes were taken by 5 stage impactors (Nano sampler 3182, KINOMAX). Daily average concentrations of coarse particles (PM10) and fine particles (PM2.5) indoors and outdoors exceeded the WHO recommended values.

Particle size is important parameter affecting the composition, quality and final applications of the producer gas. Fine grained or fluffy feed stock may cause flow problems in the gasifier as well as an inadmissible pressure drop over the reduction zone and a high proportion of dust in the gas. To avoid such problems briquetted material considered for gasification. The developed gasifier was tested with different sizes of briquettes of 15, 30 and 45 mm width and 90 mm diameter. The volatile matter, fixed carbon and ash content of briquette were found as 71.87%, 17.07% and 4.

Bi-reactor open core gasifier was built with the capacity to process approximately 15 kg of briquettes per hour. The reactor was made up of double walled cylindrical body with 300 mm of outer cylinder diameter and 244 mm of inner cylinder diameters excluding the thickness of sheet 6 mm. Both the cylinders were made up of 3 mm M.S. sheet 18 SWG. Another reactor was fabricated with same specifications and both outlets were interconnected. Gate valves were fixed to regulate the air flow rate and control the producer gas.

In this work, we report the effects of decomposition of MnBi low temperature phase (LTP) into Bi and Mn during low-energy ball milling (LEBM) carried out in xylene and silicon oil protection solvent environments and its influence on the magnetic properties of MnBi as-milled powders. In both solvents, by LEBM for 120 - 150 min, MnBi arc-melted and annealed alloys were ground into fine particles of 0.5 – 5 µm to increase iHc up to 5 kOe.

In this paper, the optical depths, scattering coefficient, absorption coefficient, extinction coefficient and single scattering albedo were modeled using Optical Properties of Aerosols and Clouds (OPAC) by slightly altering the number densities of water soluble at spectral range of 0.25 – 1.00 µm for eight different relative humidities (RHs) (0, 50, 70, 80, 90, 95, 98 and 99 %). The data was used to calculate the radiative forcing (RF).

In Part I of this paper, the two-temperature homogenized model for the fully ceramic microencapsulated fuel, in which tristructural isotropic particles are randomly dispersed in a fine lattice stochastic structure, was discussed. In this model, the fuel-kernel and silicon carbide matrix temperatures are distinguished. Moreover, the obtained temperature profiles are more realistic than those obtained using other models. Using the temperature-dependent thermal conductivities of uranium nitride and the silicon carbide matrix, temperaturedependent homogenized parameters were obtained.

The results indicated that there were three CuO species in the mixed oxide: the finely dispersed CuO species on the surface of CeO2, the Ce1-x-yCuxCayO2-δ solid solution and the bulk CuO. Most of particles have clear morphology with relatively uniform size in the range of 30 - 50 nm and the BET surface area was 37.96 m2 /g. After three times of use, the catalytic activity of CaO-CuO-CeO2 mixed oxide was still relatively high and much higher than the mixed oxide CaO-CeO2 and CuO-CeO2.

the second edition of atoms, radiation, and radiation protection has several important new features. si units are employed throughout, the older units being de-fined but used sparingly. there are two new chapters. one is on statistics for health physics. it starts with the description of radioactive decay as a bernoulli process and treats sample counting, propagation of error, limits of detection, type-i and type-ii errors, instrument response, and monte carlo radiation-transport computations.
