  • In this work, we report the isolation and structure characterization of four compounds from ethyl acetate extract of the aerial part of D. harmandii for the first time. Especially, the absolute configuration of dimer stilbene ampelopsin F was successfully established upon circular dichroism (ECD) data. Besides, the cytotoxic properties of these compounds was also investigated on the cancer cell lines.

  • Guava (Psidium guajava L.) is an important fruit crop and good source of income for Indian farmers. It’s infested with some major pests including plant parasitic nematodes. The number of plant parasitic nematode species associated with guava but some species are cause great losses. The accurate identification of nematode species is a basic key of successful management. Soil and plant samples collected from fields of guava from Arathwara village, Sheoganjtehsil, Sirohi district of Rajasthan, India on the GPS location 250 03’40.7”N; 720 58’05.0”E.

  • Organophosphate compounds are commonly used in agricultural fields to control insects and pests. The Indian spectacled cobra (Naja naja; Linnaeus, 1758) is one of the four major venomous snakes found on different terrains in Gujarat, India. Diagnosis and therapeutic management of clinical diseases of Indian spectacled cobra are not published at length. The present report documents the first record of accidental poisoning by organophosphate in an Indian spectacled cobra along with elucidation on clinical signs and successful therapeutic management.

  • Blue pine (Pinus wallichiana Jackson) which grows abundantly in Western Himalayas is prone to a number of diseases which pose serious threat to its regeneration. The needle blight caused by Diplodia pinea ((Desmaz.) J. Kick x fil) on blue pine is reported in this paper for the first time from Asia. The needle blight symptoms on blue pine seedlings and plantations were recorded on current year needles. The pathogen D. pinea was successfully isolated from the infected needles of blue pine bearing fructification.

  • In this study, a novel metal-organic framework (M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67) was successfully prepared using the single layer Fe3O4-ZIF-8 as magnetic core and wrapped a layer of ZIF-67 outer. This M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 was employed as an adsorbent for the adsorption and removal of fipronil and its metabolites from environmental water and cucumber samples. The characterization results suggested that M-ZIF-8@ZIF-67 has the double layer structure a polyhedral structure with uniform pores, while ZIF-67 was successfully coated on the surface of Fe3O4-ZIF-8.

  • The mechanism of graft incompatibility is not yet fully understood and many reports focus on this problem in order to understand the mechanisms of graft development. Graft incompatibility is reported due to the Structural or Anatomical reasons, physiological and biochemical reasons, nutritional deficiency and presence of viruses at an early phase in response to grafting, as well as the consequences of these events on the future graft response.

  • This paper explores the effect of internal control weaknesses (hereafter ICW) and their remediation on information precision for firms who filed Section 404 reports with the SEC. First, we find that the presence of ICW is associated with lower precision of both public and private information. Second, we find that the effect of ICW on public information precision is stronger for firms with firm-level ICW than for those with account-specific ICW. However, we find no such a relation for private information precision.

  • Ratio subtraction and isosbestic point methods are two innovative spectrophotometric methods for determining the concentrations of metronidazole (I) and diloxanide furoate (II) in a mixture. Metronidazole was determined by direct spectrophotometric method at kmax 314.0 nm in the presence of diloxanide furoate in the range of 4–24 lg ml1 with a mean recovery percentage of 99.83 ± 1.41. Two spectrophotometric methods were developed for the spectral resolution of diloxanide furoate when present in mixture with metronidazole without preliminary separation.

  • Three different accurate, sensitive and reproducible stability-indicating methods for the determination of pipazethate HCl in the presence of its alkaline degradation product are presented. The first method is based on ratio-spectra 1st derivative (RSD1) spectrophotometry of the drug at 305 nm, over a concentration range of 10–70 lg mL1 with mean percentage recovery of 99.69 ± 1.10.

  • This article reports on the implementation of clickers to improve the success rate of first-year mathematics students. There were 105 students registered in this course, in a university of technology in South Africa. In order to do this, an orientation test in the form of a paper-based assessment was first conducted to determine what students already knew. About 21.9% of the students did not take the test and 20% did not pass it. These results raised concerned. Thereafter students were taught. After four weeks they were evaluated on their understanding of the concept taught in class.

  • The first successful induction of adventitious shoot buds on Santalum album L. leaves is reported. De novo shoots were induced directly on leaves without any callusing stage. A leaf length of 0.5-1.5 cm only showed bud inducing potential. Bud formation occurred on both MS and WPM basal media, although, liquid media were more responsive.

  • The UCREL team at the University of Lancaster is engaged in the development of a robust parsing mechanism, which will assign the appropriate grammatical structure to sentences in unconstrained English text. The techniques used involve the calculation of probabilities for competing structures, and are based on the techniques successfully used in tagging (i.e. assigning grammatical word classes) to the LOB (Lancaster-Oslo/Bergen) corpus.

  • This is the first field study in which we analyzed the effect of computer power state on monitor power state. Only 6% of desktop computers in this study of commercial buildings were found in low power, and only 53% of those that were on successfully initiated power management in monitors. Computers in homes (where fewer are networked) may have higher enabling rates, but we have no data from residences. Clearly there is significant room for improvement in power management of computers, and more data are needed...

  • The relational database concept was described first by Dr. Edgar F. Codd in an IBM research publication entitled “System R4 Relational” appearing in 1970. Initially, it was unclear whether any system based on this concept could achieve commercial success. Nevertheless, Relational Software, Incorporated (RSI) began in 1977 and released Oracle V.2 as the world’s first relational database within a couple of years. By 1985, Oracle could claim more than 1,000 relational database customer sites.

  • After the successful cloning of the first gene for a polyglutamine disease in 1991, the expanded polyglutamine tract in the nine polyglutamine disease proteins became an obvious therapeutic target. Early hypotheses were that misfolded, precipitated protein could be a universal pathogenic mechanism. However, new data are accumulating on Huntington’s disease and other polyglutamine diseases that appear to contradict the toxic aggregate hypothesis.
