  • This study aimed to extract and evaluate some properties and the capability of phenolic components from shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) peels for usage as fish preservative. It was found that shallot peels extracted twice with 70 % ethanol solvent, within 60 minutes, at 60 oC and the ratio of solid/liquid 1/20 (g/mL) gave highest polyphenol and flavonoid yields. Total polyphenol content and total flavonoid content of the extract were 224.34±5.66 mg GAE/g DW and 255.11±4.35 mg QE/g DW, respectively.

  • Fish communities are important indicators of the health of riverine ecosystems. Fish monitoring for The Living Murray (TLM) initiative, one of Australia’s most ambitious restoration undertakings for the degraded river-floodplain biota of the River Murray system (south-eastern Australia), was carried out annually from 2005 to 2011 across six ‘Icon Sites’, including the habitats and reaches therein. These spatial and temporal components of variation in fish community abundance and composition must be taken explicitly into account for consistent assessment of riverine ecosystem health.

  • The advance production technologies, higher economic growth, population explosion and shifts in dietary pattern create driving force for rapid growth in the demand for food of animal origin. Fish is a very important component of food items of animal origin. The consumption of fish has grown faster than that of any other animal product. Disparities in the fish consumption pattern exist widely across the income groups, location of the households (rural, urban, costal, etc.), and regions. This study has been conducted in Uttar Pradesh, India.

  • Our study examines the asymmetric responses of food prices to oil prices in Indonesia as a net oil and food-importing country. We apply non-linear autoregressive distributed lag to investigate the responses of food prices to oil prices. Due to the different impacts of oil price on sub-component of the food price index, this study decomposes the general food prices index into 11 sub-components food price indices. The oil prices asymmetrically affect food prices but incomplete pass-through except the preserved fish prices.
