  • Physiological and morphological traits of flag leaf play important roles in determining crop grain yield and biomass. In order to understand genetic basis controlling physiological and morphological traits of flag leaf, a double haploid (DH) population derived from the cross of Huaai 11 × Huadamai 6 was used to detect quantitative trait locus (QTL) underlying 7 physiological and 3 morphological traits at the pre-filling stage in year 2012 and 2013.

  • A study was undertaken to estimate the heritability, genetic advance and coefficient of variation of yield and yield contributing traits in thirteen genotypes of wheat. The study was conducted in randomized block design (RBD) with three replications at Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension Station, Kargil (SKUAST-Kashmir) during kharif season of 2018. Significant genetic differences were observed for all the quantitative characters except flag leaf width, indicating considerable amount of variation among genotypes.

  • The present study was carried out to estimate the extent of variation for qualitative traits for advanced mutant generations of oat. Observations were recorded for the different agro-morphological characters viz., plant growth habit, ligule shape, leaf blade hairiness, leaf blade hairiness, recurved flag leaves, stem width, leaf width, leaf color, panicle attitude. Characterization of accessions provides the important information about morphological and agronomical aspects of the material that is essential for gene bank management.

  • An experiment was conducted to study the inter-relationships, direct and indirect effects of various yield attributing characters towards grain yield per plant, at Rice Research Centre, Rajendranagar. In the experiment Grain yield per plant showed with productivity per day 0.99, number of productive tillers 0.67, spikelet fertility % 0.64, panicle weight 0.64, number of filled grains per panicle 0.64, panicle length 0.33, days to fifty % flowering 0.23, plant height 0.41, flag leaf width 0.32, 1000 grain weight 0.23 and grain breadth 0.32.

  • In the present study, 50 germplasm accessions of foxtail millet [Setaria italica (L.) Beauv.] were evaluated based on DUS descriptors for six morphological (qualitative) traits viz., plant growth habit, plant pigmentation at auricle, inflorescence shape, inflorescence compactness, lobe compactness, seed colour and six quantitative characters viz., flag leaf: blade length (cm), flag leaf: blade width (cm), peduncle length (cm), peduncle exertion, panicle length (cm) and plant height at maturity (cm).

  • The results showed that the growth durations of the lines varied depending on the growing areas. In each region, the growth durations of the IAS lines were shorter than that of IR24 variety, but only DCG66 had a short growth duration. The plant heights of the lines were equivalent to that of IR24, except for DCG66 which had significantly taller plants. The flag leaf lengths of the lines in the Summer were longer than in the Spring, but the flag leaf widths did not differ between seasons. Grain yields of the lines in the Spring season were higher than in the Summer season.
