Flora of Iran

A worldwide taxonomic revision and the relevant lectotypifications of Zoegea L. (Asteraceae) are presented. The recognized taxa, the relevant synonyms, type details, images of the type specimen, examined specimen lists, and a taxonomic key are provided for this genus. The geographic distribution of all recognized taxa is presented and tabulated. Zoegea leptaurea L. subsp. leptaurea for the floras of Iran and Saudi Arabia and also Z. purpurea Fresen. for the flora of Iraq are reported as new here.

This study was carried out to find the bacteria for paraterasgenesis strategy as a new control method to cut the parasit life cycle. The microflora of the outer surface and gut of various stages of Anopheles fluviatilis James as one of the important malaria vector was studied using biochemical and molecular techniques during 2013-2014.

Two species of Veronica L., i.e. V. kopetdaghensis B.Fedtsch. ex Boriss. and V. filiformis Sm., are illustrated and recorded as new records for the flora of Iran.

Oxytropis glabra (Lam.) DC. (Papilionaceae) and Carex pycnostachya Kar. & Kir. (Cyperaceae) are reported as new records for the flora of Iran. These species occur in wetland habitats sharply embedded in steppic vegetation in the Alborz Mts., N Iran. A morphological comparison between these new records and related species is presented.

The nearest localities to Turkey for this species are in Bulgaria, Greece, the Caucasus, and Iran. This submeridional species was collected from 3 different localities (in Bolu and Bartın provinces) in Turkey. A site description, illustrations, and diagnostic characters of the Turkish specimens are given, together with notes on its distribution and ecology.

In the course of preparing a revision of Isatis L. and its allies in Iran, we verified Isatis tinctoria L. among the material studied. Although it has been previously recorded for Iran, we give a more extensive description and a map of its distribution in Iran. A key to distinguishing this species from its allies and a discussion of the affinities in this group are provided.

The genus Loranthus L. (Loranthaceae) is represented in Iran by 2 species: Loranthus europaeus Jacq. and L. grewingkii Boiss. & Buhse; the latter species is endemic to the area of Flora Iranica. The plants of Loranthus are hemiparasites growing on various host trees such as Quercus infectoria Oliv., Acer monspessulanum L., and Armeniaca vulgaris Lam.

The review of specimens from Iran belonging to the Portulaca oleracea L. aggregate resulted in the recognition of six microspecies: P. cypria Danin, P. granulatostellulata (Poelln.) Ricceri & Arrigoni, P. nitida (Danin & H.G.Baker) Ricceri & Arrigoni, P. rausii Danin, P. socotrana Domina & Raimondo, and P. trituberculata Danin, Domina & Raimondo, all reported for the first time for the flora of Iran.

The taxonomic composition of diatom flora of the Balikhli River (Balikhli Chay), Northwest Iran, was studied from October 2013 through September 2014. In total 109 taxa belonging to 50 genera were identified. Nitzschia (18 spp.), Navicula (9 spp.), and Gomphonema (7 spp.) were the most abundant genera.
