The reasonable shifts in FT-IR and NMR spectral signals of the complexes with respect to the free ligand confirm good coordination of the Schiff-base ligand with the metal through imine nitrogen and oxygen atoms of Schiff base moiety. The Schiff-base ligand and the complexes were screened for antimicrobial activity and fluorescent behaviour. From the analytical and spectral data, the stoichiometry was found to be 1:2 for all the complexes. An octahedral structure was proposed. All the complexes were found to be active against bacteria and fungi.

The folding of a 93-residue protein, the histidine-phospho-carrier protein ofStreptomyces coelicolor,HPr,hasbeen studied using several biophysical techniques, namely fluo-rescence, 8-anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfate binding, circular dichroism, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gel filtration chromatography and differential scanning calori-metry. The chemical-denaturation behaviour of HPr, fol-lowed by fluorescence, CD and gel filtration, at pH 7.5 and 25
C, is described as a two-state process, which does not involve the accumulation of thermodynamically stable intermediates.

Waste incinerators fall somewhere between the two categories of incidental and deliberate emissions. Similar to a coal plant, they burn a feedstock — in this case garbage — and mercury is released as an incidental emission. The difference is that most of the incidental emissions from waste incinerators are a result of mercury that is deliberately put into products.
