Fly ash origins
-
The present work characterized two types of fly ash, one from pulverized coal combustion and the other from fluidized bed combustion. The effects of fly ash origins, raw mix proportions, and sintering temperatures on the bloating of lightweight aggregates were studied. The raw mixtures were calculated based on Riley's SiO2 – Al2O3 – fluxing composition diagram.

The paper investigates the flexural performance of reinforced concrete beams in which fly ash from Vinh Tan power station was used to replace original Portland cement in the proportions of 0%, 10%, 20% and 40% by weight. Twelve reinforced concrete beams with the dimensions of 100×150 mm in cross section and 1000mm in length were cast and cured in water.

In this research, fly ash and blast furnace slag are used as raw materials to replace the components of the original AAC mixtures, which are cement and crushed sand. The properties of geopolymer non-aerated autoclaved concrete (GNAAC), such as workability, temperature, expansion degree, and compressive strength, have been determined.

This paper presents the results of adsorption ability of heavy metal ions (Hg2+ and Cd2+ ) by fly ash (FA) before and after treatment using NaOH and H2SO4 solutions. Original- and treated FA were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Specific surface area of FA before and after treatment was calculated by Brunauer – Emmett – Teller (BET) isotherm equation.
