  • The objective of this study was to assess morphological and genetic diversities of 48 forage pea landraces collected from different locations at different altitudes in Turkey. Morphological, quality, and yield features were determined for the landraces and three control cultivars in three subsequent years. Genetic diversities of the landraces and cultivars were also monitored using microsatellite (SSR) markers. Our results revealed that the features of landraces are significantly different.

  • In this study, the essential oil from the leaves of bael tree was extracted and added as an additional income to the farmers along with its fruits, timber, fodder and other domestic usages. The essential oil yield from the leaves of bael tree was obtained by hydro-distillation. A socio-economic survey in the Bisht Village and Kirsali village of district Dehradun, Uttarakhnad was conducted and the existing role of bael tree in rural agroforestry and economy was also assessed.

  • The demand of green fodder for livestock rearing has been increasing and livestock breeds of farmers require good quality fodder and feed in order to increase milk yield of exotic breed. The study was conducted in Kerala state of India and comprised of 242 farmers selected from three districts of the state. The impact of fodder cultivation was assessed on five levels viz. direct, social, economic, psychological and indirect impact. The study revealed that the highest percentage of farmers perceived fodder cultivation to have a medium level impact on their overall livelihood.

  • An extensive survey was carried out to record feeding practices and nutritional status of lactating buffaloes in Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana state. The survey was conducted during rabi season (January, 2019 - February, 2019). Twelve villages, representing all the blocks of the district were selected for this survey. Samples of feeds, fodder, milk, hair and blood were collected from five families from each category of farmers i.e. belonging to landless category and farmers with land holding in a village. Thus a total of 120 lactating buffaloes were selected for the study.

  • The present study was conducted in two districts of Upper Brahmaputra Valley Zone of Assam namely Jorhat and Majuli district in order to assess the socio-economic profile of flood affected farmers, their employment status and perception on flood impacts. A total of 160 farmers were selected from eight villages of two districts by following proportionate cum random sampling techniques. The findings reveal that majority of the respondents were in between 41-59 years of age with education level upto class VII standard and having 4-6 members in their family with average annual income Rs.7,339.

  • Millets are more nutritious and have a lower glycemic index than rice and wheat, but factors like lack of improved varieties, agronomical packages and practices as well as unorganized seed system are constraining production and productivity. Therefore, the present study was carried out to know the yield gaps between improved practices and farmers’ practices under Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) of foxtail millet under rainfed conditions of Huvinahadgali Taluka Districts of Bellari.

  • The treatments comprised of three varieties of oat (Kent, JHO 822, JHO 851) as the main plot treatments. The different varieties of oat gave different response towards the growth parameters of oat crop like plant height at50% flowering stage, dry matter accumulation plant-1 and green fodder yield with the successive growth stages. The results indicate that the variety JHO 822 of oat resulted significantly maximum in most of the growth parameters at 50% flowering stage but it was at par with variety JHO 851. The lowest growth parameters were found with variety Kent during both the years.

  • This study aimed to exploit laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, enhanced by nanoparticles (NELIBS), as a fast, sensitive and low-cost technique, to correlate the elemental composition of recent and ancient bovine bone with the elemental composition of the fodder that has been fed to the cattle throughout their life. Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (BS-Ag NPs) were used to enhance the emission intensity of the spectral lines in the LIBS spectra of contemporary and ancient bovine bones and fodder samples.

  • An infectious case of pulmonary tuberculosis is diagnosed by demonstrating tubercle bacilli in sputum. The laboratory methods available for this purpose are sputum microscopy, isolation of tubercle bacilli in culture followed by identification of the bacilli and animal pathogenicity tests. Evidence based on all the three methods establishes bacteriological diagnosis beyond any doubt, but even economically advanced countries may not consider such an elaborate procedure essential for routine diagnosis.
