Cherry laurel is one of the most important cherry species and naturally grown in Black sea region in Turkey. Its fruits are sold at high price in local markets in northern parts of Turkey. Cherry laurel fruits are very perishable with a limited shelf life due to a high metabolic activity and susceptibility to mechanical damage and microbial attack. The effect of edible coatings (EC) based on caseinat, Semperfresh and lecithin on the fruit quality, bioactive content and antioxidant activity of cherry laurel fruits stored at 4 ± 1 °C for 15 days was evaluated.

In this study, a total of 22 seed propagated EC genotypes that naturally grown in the Akkışla district of Kayseri province located in the middle part of Turkey were assessed in terms of their morphological (fruit dimensions, fruit weight, the number of fruit per cluster, and cluster weight) and biochemical (soluble solids content, pH, and organic acids), bioactive (total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity) content in order to determine the superior ones.

The main goal of study "Effect of Bursaphelenchus spp. inoculation on carbohydrate concentrations of different pine species in forest stands of Düzce Forest Directorate" was to investigate the effects of nematode inoculation on the total carbohydrate concentrations of tree species. This study investigates whether, and how, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) is concerned in flower bud abscission of pistachio (Pistacia vera L.). Abscission was studied about the activation of the abscission zone, located between shoot and flower bud, from Uzun pistachio cultivar where the abscission profiles and the scanning electron micrographs pictorial differences in the abscission program, under natural conditions of flower bud.

The defoliation and fruit characteristics of natural Castanea sativa Mill. forests were annually monitored between 2014 and 2016 in İstanbul, Turkey. The soil and forest floor properties were also investigated and evaluated according to the stand development stages. Comparisons were made with ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests; the relationship between fruit yield and the properties of the soil and forest floor were tested with correlation analysis; and allometric regression models were developed for fruit yield.

Siberian stone pine (Pinus sibirica Du Tour) is a cone-bearing species with outstanding nutritious seeds, health-supporting properties, and nut oil. Currently, the main volume of pine nuts is harvested in natural forests, which causes damage to ecosystems. The best solution to this problem would be harvesting nuts on special pine nut plantations established on the basis of high-seeding clones. However, it is hampered by the low efficiency of the existing methods for assessing plus-tree productivity.

Our aims were to investigate species-specific ecophysiological responses of canopy trees in a mixed Turkey oak forest during their early-phase regeneration. Climate aridization and increased anthropogenic pressure pose a severe threat to natural vegetation, including coastal plant communities. Those located in river basins of the desert zone of Central Asia are among the most vulnerable. Of the variety of ecosystems of the Ili-Balkhash region of Kazakhstan, forests dominated by a rare relict species Populus pruinosa Schrenk are of particular concern. This species occupies a very narrow ecological niche associated with river banks of the arid zone, which makes it very vulnerable to adverse natural and anthropogenic factors.

We compared the expression levels of some structural genes involved in the flavonoid pathway between two brown cotton lines (brown 16 and light brown 14) and two green cotton lines (greenish 12 and light green 5). Gene expression levels of six structural genes F3’h (flavonoid 3ˈ-hydroxylase), F3’5’h (flavonoid 3ˈ5ˈ-hydroxylase), Dfr (dihydroflavonol 4-reductase), Lar (leucoanthocyanidin reductase), Ans (anthocyanidin synthase), and Anr (anthocyanidin reductase) were all substantially highly expressed in both brown cotton lines than in green cotton lines.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of different drying methods and cold storage treatments on the postharvest quality and nutritional properties of P. ostreatus mushroom. In the study, six different treatments including natural drying, oven drying (60°C), microwave drying (450 W), storage at -18°C, 4°C and 10°C were evaluated. After drying and cold storage, pH value, ash, protein, color, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, antioxidant activity and element contents in mushroom samples were detected.
