Fractured basement

Blocks 10 and 11.1 are located at the western boundary of the Nam Con Son basin, offshore southern Vietnam. Hydrocarbon shows have been encountered in many wells as the Gau Chua (GC), Ca Cho (CC), Gau Ngua (GN), Phi Ma (PM), Than Ma (TM), etc. In the CC and GNfields, the oil and gas were discovered in Miocene sandstone reservoirs and in fractured granite basement. The Cau and Dua formations are active source rocks in this area.

In fields with increasing water cut and depleting reservoir energy, Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) installation is a sustainable production option. It helps to extend life of the wells by lower abandonment pressure and therefore increases the recovery factor.

The pilot test of GAGD was recorded with a good oil rate and low water-cut during flowing back after gas injection and shut-in for gas segregation, which suggests the positive effectiveness of GAGD to some degree. The expansion of the GAGD application to other wells and areas in the field would be encouraged in any similar situation.

In this study, diffraction imaging is employed in an effort to identify and enhance the fault system inside the basement. The comparison of the study result with various standard post-stack attribute approaches shows the effectiveness of the diffraction imaging method. an oil field in Cuu Long basin.

In the past decades, a large amount of oil production in the Cuu Long basin was mainly exploited from the basement reservoir, oil production from the Miocene sandstone reservoir and a small amount of oil production from the Oligocene sandstone reservoir. Many discovery wells and production wells in lower Tra Tan and Tra Cu of Oligocene sandstone had high potential for oil and gas production and reserve where the average reservoir porosity was in range of 10% to 18%, and reservoir permeability was in range of 0.1 md to 5 md.
