Frailty index
-
The frailty index (FI) is one way in which frailty can be quantified. While it is measured as a continuous variable, various cut-of points have been used to categorise older adults as frail or non-frail, and these have largely been validated in the acute care or community settings for older adults without cancer.

The aim of this study is identify the association between lower body strength and some related factors in community-dwelling older adults. This is a cross-sectional study with people ≥ 60 years old. Variables including demographic information, body mass index, 30-second chair stand test, frailty, time up and go test, cognitive function, falls risk, depression risk, functional independence and nutrional status, and history of fall.

Frailty, a syndrome characterized by a decline in function reserve, is common in older patients with heart failure (HF) and is associated with prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of frailty on outcomes in older patients with preserved and reduced cardiac function.

Previously, several indexes based on a large number of clinical and laboratory tests to predict mortality and frailty have been produced. However, there is still a need for an easily applicable screening tool for every-day clinical practice.

Limitations exist in available studies investigating effect of preoperative frailty on postoperative out‑ comes. This study was designed to analyze the association between composite risk index, an accumulation of preop‑ erative frailty deficits, and the risk of postoperative complications in older patients recovering from elective digestive tract surgery.

The Institut Pasteur de Lille, in the north of France, has implemented a large, multidisciplinary health check, which aims to identify frailty in middle-aged caregivers. We aimed to construct an adapted frailty index of cumulative deficit (FI-CD) and study the associated factors, in particular socioeconomic factors.

Frailty is a kind of geriatric syndrome, which is very common in the elderly. Patients with malnutrition are at higher risk of frailty. This study explored the correlation between nutrition and frailty and compared the receiver operating characteristic curve of different nutritional indexes for frailty.

Few studies have made longitudinal comparisons between frailty phenotype (FP) and frailty index (FI) changes. We aimed to investigate frailty status changes defined by FP and FI concurrently, and to compare the associated factors and incident disability among different combination of FI and FP trajectory groups.

While the frailty index (FI) is a continuous variable, an FI score of 0.25 has construct and predictive validity to categorise community-dwelling older adults as frail or non-frail. Our study aimed to explore which FI categories (FI scores and labels) were being used in high impact studies of adults across diferent care settings and why these categories were being chosen by study authors.

Several methods are available for identifying frailty, but limited tools have been validated in Thai context. Our objective was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Thai version of the Simple Frailty Questionnaire (T- FRAIL) compared to the Thai Frailty Index (TFI) and to explore modifications to improve its diagnostic properties.

The prognostic value of frailty measures for post-stroke neurocognitive disorder (NCD) remains to be evaluated. Aims: The aim of this study was to compare the predictive value of pre-stroke FI with pre-stroke modified Rankin Scale (mRS) for post-stroke cognitive impairment. Further, we explored the added value of including FI in prediction models for cognitive prognosis post-stroke.

Poor oral health conditions are known to affect frailty in the older adults. Diabetes is a risk factor for both poor oral health and frailty, therefore, oral health status may affect frailty in diabetic patients more than in the general population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of oral health and other factors on frailty and the relationship among oral health, diabetes and frailty in older adult patients with type 2 diabetes.

To investigate the association between sleep duration and cognitive frailty among older adults dwelling in western China. Methods: We used the baseline data from West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study. Sleep duration was classified as short sleep duration (< 6 h), normal sleep duration (6–8 h) and long sleep duration (≥ 9 h).
