Ebook "Ultrasonic synthesis of functional materials" begins by giving a summary of sonochemistry and explains how a chemical reaction can be induced by the interaction of sound waves and gas bubbles in liquids. The work outlines how primary and secondary radicals combined with the physical effects generated during acoustic cavitation are active in the ultrasonic synthesis of a variety of functional materials.

A robust synthesis of iridium oxide (IrO2) nanoclusters using methanol as a reducing agent via the chemical reduction method is reported in this article. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyoxyethylene(23) lauryl ether (POLE) were used as stabilizers. The formation of IrO2 nanoclusters was confirmed by the appearance of new absorption peak at 230 nm in UV-vis spectra. XRD and TEM were used to determine the degree of crystallinity and size of nanoclusters, respectively.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is one of the most effective solutions to meet an enormous growth of travel demand in developing countries’ urban areas where urban rail systems are on the plan or under construction but not in reality yet. Based on collection and synthesis of successful and outstanding experience over the world (e.g. in Bogota (Colombia), Guangzhou (China), Ahmedabad (India)), the Bus Rapid Transit Standard (BRTS) was introduced to provide guidelines to the following creation of BRT.

This paper presents a hardware module design for the forward Binary Discrete Cosine Transform (BinDCT) and its implementation on a field programmable gate array device. Different architectures of the BinDCT module were explored to ensure the maximum efficiency. The elaboration of these architectures included architectural design, timing and pipeline analysis, hardware description language modeling, design synthesis, and implementation.

Nonspecific distribution and uncontrollable release of drugs in conventional drug delivery systems (CDDSs) have led to the development of smart nanocarrier-based drug delivery systems, which are also known as Smart Drug Delivery Systems (SDDSs). SDDSs can deliver drugs to the target sites with reduced dosage frequency and in a spatially controlled manner to mitigate the side effects experienced in CDDSs. Chemotherapy is widely used to treat cancer, which is the second leading cause of death worldwide.

The results show that the AuNPs exhibited a single plasmonic resonance, the AuNRs displayed two identical and separated modes of the resonance, and the random Au nano-islands presented a very broad resonance. Specifically, tailoring the anisotropy of the Au nanorods enabled extending their resonant frequencies from the visible to the near infrared region, which is in accordance with the finite different time domain simulations.

The overall performance of the systems is often limited by the accuracy of the underlying speech parameterization and reconstruction method. The method proposed in this paper allows accurate MFCC, F0 and tone extraction and high-quality reconstruction of speech signals assuming Mel Log Spectral Approximation filter. Its suitability for high-quality HMM-based speech synthesis is shown through evaluations subjectively.

In this communication, we report the synthesis of chitosan (CS, a biodegradable and biocom- patible natural polymer) [1] nanoparticles as drug carriers by ionic gelation. The method is based on ionic interactions between positively charged groups NH3 + of CS (in dilute CH3COOH solution) and negatively charged of sodium tripolyphos- phate, TPP).

The increasing awareness of the importance of chirality in the context of biological activity has stimulated a growing demand for efficient methods for industrial synthesis of pure enantiomers including chiral antiinflammatory drugs such as naproxen (Xin et al., 2001) and ibuprofen (Lee et al., 1995; Ducret et al., 1998; Xie et al., 1998; Arroyo et al., 1999; Chen and Tsai, 2000); antihypertensive agents such as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (e.g., captopril, enalapril, ceranopril, zofenapril, and lisinopril); and the calcium channel- blocking drugs such as diltiazem.

This paper is a progress report on a project in linguistically based automatic speech recognition, The domain of this project is English intonation. The system I will describe analyzes fundamental frequency contours (F0 contours) of speech in terms of the theory of melody laid out in Pierrehumbert (1980). Experiments discussed in Liberman and Pierrehumbert (1983) support the assumptions made about intonational phonetics, and an F0 synthesis program based on a precursor to the present theory is described in Pierrehumbert (1981). ...

During the years surrounding the new millennium, the field of vibrational optical activity (VOA), comprised principally of vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and vibrational Raman optical activity (ROA), underwent a transition from a specialized area of research that had been practiced by a handful of pioneers into an important newfield of spectroscopy practiced by an increasing number of scientists worldwide. This transition was made possible by the development of commercial instrumentation and software for the routine measurement and quantum chemical calculation ofVOA.

The term ‘microwaves’ is used for those wavelengths measured in centimetres roughly from 1 m. to 0.1 cm or the bands of frequencies between 300 MHz to 300 GHz. Microwaves are most popularly used in point to point communication, TV broadcasting via satellites and in RADAR systems. Besides these, they are also being used in industrial, biomedical, chemical and in scientific research applications. The latest wide acceptance of the microwave application is as “microwave heating” in synthesizing various compounds (organic and inorganic) in research laboratories as well as in industries....
