  • This study investigated the effect of cold plasma treatment on growth, fruit and seed parameters of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) cultivar California Wonder. The seeds were exposed to various durations of oxygen cold plasma treatment using glow discharge technique at FCIPT, Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. The seeds were pre-treated with power of 100 W for treatment durations of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 minutes. The changes in surface morphology of plasma treated seeds were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Contact Angle Goniometer.

  • Guava (Psidium guajava L; Myrtaceae) popularly known as “apple of tropics” is an important fruit crop of India. It is largely a self-pollinated crop, but crosspollination also does occur. This results in a large variability in the seedling population. Among cultivars, substantial variation exists in terms of growth pattern, yielding behavior, fruit characters (peel, shape etc.) and physio-chemical composition, aroma, pulp to seed ratio, seed characters. Assessment of variability can be achieved through morphological characters, chemical composition and by biotechnological tools.

  • Fourteen cucumber accessions collected from different Northeast states of India were analysed for variations by means of agro-morphological traits and palynological characteristics. Phenotypic variations in fruit length (19.20 cm – 28.33 cm, fruit width 5.0 cm – 7.3 cm), number of locules (3 – 4/fruit), seed length (0.8 cm – 1.2 cm), seed width (0.3 cm – 0.43 cm) and weight of 100 seeds (1.0 gm – 3.4 gm/ accessions) were observed. Variations were also observed in pollen characteristics among the accessions.

  • The objective of this work was to study the reproductive biology in four nerium cultivars. Anthesis, anther dehiscence, stigma receptivity, flower and fruit morphology, pollen morphology and production, ovule production and pollen ovule ratio were studied. Anthesis in nerium cultivars started from 5.30 a.m. and reached the peak by 6.30 a.m. except in yellow cultivar (6.30 to 7.30 am). Nerium flowers are protandrous in nature and the anthers dehisced by longitudinal slit just before the anthesis. Anther dehiscence started at 5.30 a.m. and maximum anther dehisce was observed between 5.

  • The breadfruit tree (Artocarpus altilis), despite its food, therapeutic and agroforestry potential, remained underutilized in Benin due to the lack of information on the species. The objective of this study is to carry out the morphological characterization of the species in order to have a better knowledge of its diversity in Benin, an essential step in its safeguarding and its use. Thus, the discriminatory morphological descriptors in Artocarpus altilis in relation to the agro-ecological diversity of Benin have been identified. Foliar, fruit and seed characteristics were studied.
