India leads the world in banana production, producing around 18% of the worldwide crop of 139 million metric tonnes. In spite of this, its exports are minimal for various reasons. External appearance, internal and market quality of bananas are influenced by several factors, including production practices. Banana bunch cover is a physical protection method which will improves the visual quality of fruit by promoting skin colouration and reducing blemishes, but can also change the micro-environment for fruit development, which can have several beneficial effects on internal fruit quality.

Russeting is a disorder developed by apple fruits that consists of cuticle cracking followed by the replacement of the epidermis by a corky layer that protects the fruit surface from water loss and pathogens.

Pre-harvest contamination of fruits and vegetables by Salmonella in fields is one of the causes of food-borne outbreaks. Natural openings like stomata, hydathodes and fruit cracks are known to serve as entry points.

Fruit cracking occurs easily under unsuitable environmental conditions and is one of the main types of damage that occurs in fruit production. It is widely accepted that plants have developed defence mechanisms and regulatory networks that respond to abiotic stress, which involves perceiving, integrating and responding to stress signals by modulating the expression of related genes.

Poor fruit set and retention followed by sun burning and cracking is a serious physiological disorder in litchi which is causing significant economic loss. Besides these, the pre-harvest quiescent infection with blight, anthracnose etc is also causing huge losses at post harvest stage. Considering these problems an experiment was conducted during 2010-13 to evaluate the effect of pre-harvest spray of various chemicals on fruit quality, yield and storage life of litchi fruits. Eight chemical treatments were sprayed twice on litchi fruits cv.

Performance of eight pomegranate cultivars for important horticultural traits was done under subtropical conditions of Jammu. The results showed significant variations on all the parameters for different cultivars. The highest plant height was recorded in cv. Kandhari, whereas maximum spread was recorded in cv. Ganesh. Maximum flowering duration was observed in Jalore and minimum days taken to fruit maturity were found in Bedana. The highest fruit yield was recorded in cv. Kandhari followed by Kabuli Kandhari. The best fruit size was recorded in cv.

The experimentation was laid out on the “Effect of NAA and Zinc sulphate on fruiting, yield of litchi [Litchi chinensis (Gaertn.) Sonn.] cv. Calcuttia” during 2015-2016 in Factorial Randomized Block Design with 3 replications & fifteen treatments, involving NAA, Zn and control. Observations were recorded on plant basis. The observations were recorded on the characters viz. Number of inflorescence per tree, Fruit set, Fruit drop, Fruit retention, Fruit cracking, Fruit yield. Calcuttia So, it is advised to litchi growers to spraying of 0.

An experiment on soil working techniques like CBOC (crescent bund with open catchment pits), mulching and pre-harvest spray of forchlorfenuron and boron was carried out on seven-year-old plants of pomegranate cultivar Kandhari trained as four stems grown under rainfed conditions of Himachal Pradesh. Experimental plants were subjected to 11 treatments, viz., mulching, CBOC, CPPU (forchlorfenuron) at 5 or 10 ppm, H3BO3 at 0.2 or 0.4%, mulching + CPPU at 5 ppm or H3BO3 at 0.2%, CBOC + CPPU at 5 ppm or H3BO3 at 0.2% and control.

Increasing irrigation intervals decreased the skin strength and calcium content of the fruit but increased the reducing sugars and ion leakage from skin disks. The data suggest that both pulp and skin characteristics of litchi fruit may determine fruit cracking susceptibility and that increasing the irrigation intervals promotes the incidence of cracking.

Microbial spoilage is manifested by a variety of sensory cues such as off-colours, off- odours, off- flavours, softening of vegetables and fruits, and slime. However, even before it becomes obvious, microbes have begun the process of breaking down food molecules for their own metabolic needs. Sugars and easily digested carbohydrates are used first, plant pectins are degraded. Then proteins are attacked, producing volatile compounds with characteristic smells such as ammonia, amines, and sulfides.
