Reliable marking systems are critical to the prospective field release of transgenic insect strains. This is to unambiguously distinguish released insects from wild insects in the field that are collected in field traps, and tissue-specific markers, such as those that are sperm-specific, have particular uses such as identifying wild females that have mated with released males.

The vinegar or pomace fly, Zaprionus tuberculatus Malloch, is native to the Afrotropical region but has recently colonized new areas in Turkey, Italy, Malta, Romania, and Greece. This invasive species was first detected in 2012 in Adana on banana and peach baits and is considered a potential agricultural pest in fig production in Turkey. However, the European and Mediterranean Plant Organization reports that no direct association of the fly with fruit damage has been documented so far because specimens were generally caught in traps.

The parapheromone traps are excellent tool in reducing the population of fruit flies in snake gourd ecosystem. In farmer‟s situation, due to lack of awareness, availability and knowledge on its mechanism of trapping all paves way to move towards the spraying of insecticides. Considering these key limitations, this present investigation was framed to develop locally available, cost effective trap designs for the efficient eco-friendly management of fruit flies in snake gourd ecosystem.

Incidence of fruit fly and damage intensity in guava (Psidium guajava L.) in orchards of Eastern India, Ranchi were studied during rainy and winter season in 2013 and 2014 under ICAR-RCER. The observations were recorded on number of flowers and fruits per plants, indicated that flowers and fruit were higher in number in rainy season. However, the weights of fruits were high in winter season as compared to rainy. The number of fruits drop were recorded higher in rainy season about 7.72 % in normal planting and 8.85 % in high density planting in first year study (2013).

In the present investigation, twelve types of lure traps with different combinations were evaluated for monitoring the fruit fly population for two seasons i.e. during 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. The studies revealed that, there was a significant difference recorded among all the twelve traps in both seasons. For 2017-2018 season, in commercial traps, Green victory methyl eugenol (ME) fruit fly trap showed the best performance in capturing adult fruit fly population throughout the cropping period with catch of 479.33 fruit flies/trap.

The species diversity of Dacinae fruit flies (Bactrocera spp.) was monitored in guava growing areas in various districts of western Uttar Pradesh, India, over a 12 months period (October, 2017- September, 2018). Samples of fruit flies were collected by using methyl eugenol lure traps and infested guava fruits collected from the farmer’s orchards in fruiting season. Three species of fruit flies recorded were, Bactrocera correcta, B. dorsalis and B. zonata. In general, proportionately higher population of B. zonata was recorded form various places surveyed.

Field experiment on the performance of different management strategies against fruit fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillett) infesting bitter gourd was carried out during kharif 2017 and 2018 at farmers’ field. The results revealed that significantly lowest mean number of ovipositional punctures (1.72 and 1.98/fruit), lowest mean number of maggots (10.00 and 10.93/fruit), lowest mean percent of fruit infestation (13.92 and 16.90 %) and higher fruit yield (15.73 and 16.59 t/ha.) as well as the highest costbenefit ratio (1: 2.31 and 1: 2.
