Fruit growth

The plants are vigorous, dome shaped and compact. These guavas are cultivated across the Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh region in the northern belt of India. The present experiment was carried out during July 2019 to December 2019 in Central horticulture research farm of Department of Horticulture, SHUATS, Prayagraj. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design with 15 treatment replicated thrice.

In fruit production, the effects of flowering and fruiting, which modify source-sink relationships, cannot be overlooked and is even more true in tropical fruit production, where the flowering and fruiting phases exceed six months at the individual tree scale. More specifically, little is known about the effects of source/sink balance, and the associated changes in carbon export rate from leaves and leaf carbohydrate concentration, like the ones resulting from the presence of developing fruits, on leaf nitrogen and photosynthetic capacity within the crown of field-growing trees.

The development of fruits without fertilization is known as parthenocarpy. Parthenocarpy improves the fruit quality, processing attributes, production and productivity of vegetable crops like tomato, cucumber, watermelon etc. Absence of seeds can enhances the shelf life of the fruits, allowing a better conservation, fruit set in adverse climatic conditions, early and offseason production of vegetable crops. Therefore, it is important to ensure yield stability regardless of environmental conditions.

The rapid growth of the fruit industry in the Mekong Delta area of Vietnam has seen the emergence of many problems, including a shortage of planting material, inadequate nursery and orchard management, lack of agribusiness and marketing skills. These problems could not be improved with existing level of government extenstion service. This activity will focus on the mango industry in Tien Giang and Tra Vinh provinces where good varieties of mango are produced.
