The objectives of the study were to (i) identify sustainable livelihood options; (ii) the most suitable livelihood practices with the purpose of reducing poverty for local communities and their dependency on forest resources; and (iii) recommend suitable policies to reduce the conflict between socio-economic development and forest management. In order to achieve these objectives, we used the LIFE (livelihood, income, forest condition, and equity); the Sustainable Livelihood Framework; and the Advocacy Coalition Framework.

The top of the olecranon honey peach (Prunus persica L.) fruit appears similar to an eagle’s beak. In this study, a single olecranon honey peach with a round-type fruit was observed in our fruit orchard. To explore the genetic mechanism of olecranon formation, we performed full-length transcriptome sequencing analysis of olecranon and round peaches as well as a genome-wide association study of the association of olecranon-type trait loci.

Global warming will expand the range of new and invasive pathogens in orchards, and subsequently increase the risk of disease epidemics and economic losses. The development of new resistant plant varieties can help to reduce the impact of pathogens, however, the breeding speed can be extremely slow, due to the growth rates of the plants, and the availability of resistance genes.

Mango is regarded as „king of fruits‟ and is grown mainly in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Anthracnose is one of the devastating disease, known to cause yield loss from 10 to 80 per cent in orchard and also being post-harvest disease, it cause an economical loss to the tune of 15-20 per cent. The disease is caused by the fungal pathogen Colletotrichum gloeosprorioides.

Citrus is India's third-largest fruit crop, boosting production of 1.07 million hectares to 10.48 million tonnes (2013-14). Therefore, yields of 20-25 tonnes/ha have been recorded by some progressive growers, but average productivity is 9.78 tonnes/ha. In other countries where citrus is grown, these numbers are 40-50 tonnes, and the production life in orchards is much longer. High-strength cultivation with automatic fertilization has contributed significantly to the commercial citrus cultivation revolution in many countries.

Physical damage caused by mechanical harvesting of fruits not only halts the physical appearance of orange fruit but also degrade the fruit quality. By keeping above points into consideration, research work was formulated to develop ergonomically feasible orange fruit harvester for the small orchard.

An economic analysis of kinnow has been presented through studying their costs and returns. The average first year establishment costs per hectare for kinnow has been worked out to be Rs. 399466. The overall per hectare per year returns from kinnow orchards have been worked out to be Rs. 125478. The overall economic viability of the kinnow fruit, mainly net present value, internal rate of return, benefit-cost ratio and payback period have been computed as Rs. 261258, 15.57 per cent, 2.19 and 7.6 years, respectively.

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is one of the important fruit crop of arid and semiarid regions of the world belongs to family Punicaceae. This fruit crop is often cross pollinated, genetically heterozygous and appropriate natural variation is present. Traits like reducing the size of the plant in order to increase orchard plant density, selecting self fertile genotypes to maintain a higher consistent yield over time and selecting genotypes with higher nutritional value of the fruit are important for ideotype plant in pomegranate.
