This study was conducted to estimate genetic relationships among banana clones growing in Turkey via some morphological parameters and two molecular marker systems. In terms of yield parameters such as bunch weight, hand number, fruit weight, and total fruit number, Grand Nain (GN) clone came to the forefront with the highest values. It was followed by Azman (AZ), Dwarf Cavendish (DC), and Erdemli Yerli (EY) clones, respectively.

The main goal of study "Prunus microcarpa: a potential rootstock for apricots" was to identify new dwarfing rootstocks for apricots that limit apricot tree height and size, without altering scion production or fruit characteristics. In this study, ‘Hacıhaliloğlu’, ‘Hasanbey’, ‘Kabaaşı’, and ‘Roxana’ apricot cultivars grafted on Prunus microcarpa — a potential rootstock for apricot — were investigated. Phenological, morphological, yield, and quality traits of apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) cultivars grafted on Prunus microcarpa seedlings and apricot (P.

The defoliation and fruit characteristics of natural Castanea sativa Mill. forests were annually monitored between 2014 and 2016 in İstanbul, Turkey. The soil and forest floor properties were also investigated and evaluated according to the stand development stages. Comparisons were made with ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests; the relationship between fruit yield and the properties of the soil and forest floor were tested with correlation analysis; and allometric regression models were developed for fruit yield.

In this work, 19 newly introduced and some traditional apricot cultivars were evaluated by 20 phenological and agronomical traits and fruit quality attributes. The results showed a wide variation in phenological data, tree vigour (TCSA), productivity [yield per tree, cumulative yield (CY) and yield efficiency (YE)], and fruit quality attributes such as fruit and stone weight, flesh/stone ratio, fruit dimensions, size, shape index, soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA) and ripening index (RI).

Fractions yielded from Phellinus gilvus fruiting bodies by liquid-liquid partition of methanol extract contained various bioactive compounds such as phenolics, flavonoids and terpenes. Butanol, water and ethyl acetate fractions had large amount of phenolics, 158.12 - 247.31 mg of gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g and low amount of flavonoids, 21.74 - 36.05 mg of quercetin equivalents (QE)/g.

This study aimed to investigate nine commercial cultivars of tomato, in order to identify the most suitable cultivar in terms of morphological (plant height, fruit size, fruit weight and total yield) and physico-biochemical (color, firmness, total soluble solid, titratable acidity, ascorbic acid, total sugar, reducing and non-reducing sugar, β-carotene and lycopene) attributes.

The purpose of our study is to identify native pollinators of watermelon and the yield enhancement potential of managed honey bees and stingless bees. Specifically, we asked the following questions: (i) Which are the most effective pollinators? (ii) Is there any pollination limitation (i.e. insufficient pollen transfer to stigma for optimum fruit set) of the plant species within the study areas? (iii) Is there any inbreeding depression? (iv) Which one is more suitable between the western honey bee (A. mellifera) and the stingless bee (T.

Fungal and bacterial rhizosphere microbiome associated with selected melon and snake melon genotypes
The total bacterial population in the rhizosphere of ten melon and two snake melon genotypes was significantly 59 to 68% higher than control soil. For most tested genotypes, a significant increase in the culturable rhizospheric actinomycetes, about 28.5 to 92.6%, was recorded comparatively to control soil. Fungal population counts in the rhizosphere of tested genotypes were significantly comparable to control.

This study was carried out to determine the effects of protected cultivation on the earliness, yield, and fruit quality characteristics of some low chill peach-nectarine cultivars grown in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey. Phenological observations, yield parameters, and fruit quality characteristics were investigated. The chilling durations as CH (chilling hours), CU (chilling unit), and heat accumulations were determined. The ‘Astoria’ cultivar reached the highest cumulative yield of 29.11 kg/tree and 38.72 t/ha, and fruit size was 131.89 g and 61.74 mm in protected cultivation.

Longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) is an important fruit tree in the subtropical regions of Southeast Asia and Australia. Among the factors affecting D. longan fruit yield, the difficulty and instability of blossoming is one of the most challenging issues. Perpetual flowering (PF) is a crucial trait for fruit trees and is directly linked to production potential.

Paeonia ostii is a potentially important oilseed crop because its seed yield is high, and the seeds are rich in α-linolenic acid (ALA). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying ALA biosynthesis during seed kernel, seed testa, and fruit pericarp development in this plant are unclear.

Mango, Mangifera indica L., an important tropical fruit crop, is grown for its sweet and aromatic fruits. Past improvement of this species has predominantly relied on chance seedlings derived from over 1000 cultivars in the Indian sub-continent with a large variation for fruit size, yield, biotic and abiotic stress resistance, and fruit quality among other traits. Historically, mango has been an orphan crop with very limited molecular information.

Being a promising tropical woody oilseed crop, the evergreen and recurrent plants of Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) has complex phenology and source–sink interactions. Carbon source–sink manipulations with control and two treatments (reduce source, ca. 10% mature leaf pruning; reduce sink, 10% fruitlet thinning) were conducted on 2.5-year-old field-grown P. volubilis plantation during the early-wet season in a seasonal tropical area.
