Ebook "Polymers in solution: Their modelling and structure" is devoted to the static properties of flexible polymers in solution, presenting the vast theoretical and experimental progress made in recent years. Work in this area has been especially fruitful because long polymer chains show a universality in their behavior when in solution, despite the variety in their chemical composition and physical properties.

The HD-LBP–treated rats had high levels of SOD and low levels of MDA in their serum samples. Moreover, HD-LBP and drug-treated groups had a high number of SER receptors and BDNF-positive cells and a low number of TUNEL-positive cells in their hippocampal brain tissues. The HD-LBP treatments decrease anxious behavior by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities, hippocampal SER and BDNF neurotransmitter levels and decreasing the TUNEL-positive cell count of ovariectomized rats.

Pineapple is an important fruit crop and West Bengal is the leader in pineapple production in India. In West Bengal the commercial cultivars is Kew under Smooth Cayenne group which suitable for processing purpose. Table purpose cultivars like Queen is being grown as home stead condition in some pockets of West Bengal. Mauritius cultivar (Queen Group) of pineapple was introduced first time in West Bengal from the south India and its growth performance under the integrated nutrient management practices was assessed in this present experiment.

Fruit crops, mostly perennial, are highly heterozygous with a complex genetic nature and several cross-breeding barriers. Among the various evolutionary mechanisms of floral behavior reported in fruit crops, dichogamy is one of the most important mechanisms with the most prevalent also. Dichogamy refers to the maturation of sex organs at different times in plants. It is mainly divided into two main types; protoandry and protogyny. However, various other classifications have also been suggested by the scientists in flowering plants which further elaborated the mechanism.

The average fruiting body weight was observed to be significantly higher in case of strain Portbella (12.00 gm). In the growth behavior, U-3 gave the best performance followed by the other strains. Maximum average length, width of stalk and average width, length of cap was observed in Portbella followed by A-15, U-3, Delta, NCS-459 and minimum was observed in NCS-465.

Ethylene inhibitor compound 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), sanitizer chlorine dioxide (ClO2) and polyhexamethylene guanidine (PHMG) were studied to know the postharvest behavior and storage life of banana fruits (cultivar Yelakki), harvested at second stage of its ripening. Banana fruits were pretreated with the above chemicals either singly or in combination and stored in corrugated fiber board boxes at ambient condition. The 1-MCP treatment had delayed the colour change of peel as well as fruit softening and extended t h e shelf life by suppressing the respiration.

The productivity of apple in Jammu and Kashmir is 8.57 metric tons per hectare, when it is compared with the productivity of developed nations of the world this figure is very low and there is plenty of difference in the productivity. In order to curtail this gap a number of factors has to be reviewed seriously and address them priority wise. The factors of prime importance were identified as compatibility of pollen in apple orchards that actually determines the productivity of this most important fruit crop known as king of temperate fruits.

The Quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill.) is the only member of the genus Cydonia in the family Rosaceae. It is mostly used for culinary purposes and has great potential in processing industry. Quince genotype collections are maintained in quince block at ICARCITH, Srinagar. Physicochemical attributes play an important role in determining the nature and behavior of the fruit and their response to handling and processing. The present study was conducted during 2017-18, to evaluate ten genotypes of quince for physicochemical attributes both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Guava (Psidium guajava L; Myrtaceae) popularly known as “apple of tropics” is an important fruit crop of India. It is largely a self-pollinated crop, but crosspollination also does occur. This results in a large variability in the seedling population. Among cultivars, substantial variation exists in terms of growth pattern, yielding behavior, fruit characters (peel, shape etc.) and physio-chemical composition, aroma, pulp to seed ratio, seed characters. Assessment of variability can be achieved through morphological characters, chemical composition and by biotechnological tools.

Guava cv. Khaza is known to have a poor shelf life under ambient storage conditions. But application of post-harvest treatments like Aloevera gel, Salicylic acid and Benzyladenine as post-harvest treatment followed by pre-packaging in polyethylene film of different thickness can enhance shelf life of the fruits. Hence an attempt had been made to judge the efficacy of the treatments with their interaction with packaging practices on shelf life and fruit qualities.

The start of complementary feeding in infancy plays an essential role in promoting healthy eating habits. Evidence shows that it is important what infants are offered during this first introduction of solid foods: e.g. starting exclusively with vegetables is more successful for vegetable acceptance than starting with fruits.

A study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of exogenous application of putrescine and spermine (Polyamine) on postharvest physiological and biochemical behavior of banana cv. Grand Naine. Mature unripe bananas were dipped in varied concentrations of putrescine (PUT) (1 mM, 3 mM and 6 mM) and spermine (SPM) (1 μM, 5 μM and 10 μM) aqueous solution and stored at cold storage (13 °C ± 1, 85 % RH). Dipping of bananas in distilled water served as control.

Persistence behavior of individual insecticides of pre-mix formulation (chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin) was studied in peel, pulp and whole sapota fruit (unripe and ripe) applied at recommended and double of recommended dose. The residues of cypermethrin and chlorpyrifos persisted up to 10-30 days at either dose in peel, pulp and whole unripe sapota fruits. The dissipation half-life (DT-50) values obtained for chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin in peel and whole fruit was in the range of 2.57 to 5.01 days at recommended and double the recommended dose.
