Diospyros oleifera, one of the most economically important Diospyros species, is an ideal model for study‑ ing the fruit development of persimmon. While, the lack of whole-transcriptome has hindered the complex transcrip‑ tional regulation mechanisms of sugar and tannin during fruit development.

Anastrepha fraterculus is one of the most important fruit fly plagues in the American continent and only chemical control is applied in the field to diminish its population densities. A better understanding of the genetic variability during the introduction and adaptation of wild A. fraterculus populations to laboratory conditions is required for the development of stable and vigorous experimental colonies and mass-reared strains in support of successful Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) efforts.

Fruit set after successful pollination is key for the production of sweet cherries, and a low fruit-setting rate is the main problem in production of this crop. As gibberellin treatment can directly induce parthenogenesis and satisfy the hormone requirement during fruit growth and development, such treatment is an important strategy for improving the fruit-setting rate of sweet cherries.

In the study "Effects of film coating materials on the quality of postharvest ‘Sanh’ orange fruits (Citrus nobilis var. Typica) during storage", the oranges were stored at room temperature (30 ± 2°C) with five coating materials: polyethylene (PE), and polypropylene (PP) bags, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film, Citra Shine preservatives and 1% chitosan and the control were used.

Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) is a metastatic cancer for which the primary lesion remains unidentifiable during life and little is also known about the modifiable risk factors that contribute to its development. This study investigates whether vegetables and fruits are associated with CUP risk.

Ethylene is involved in the regulation of the natural process of fruit pulp development and postharvest storage. The present study was carried out to determine the expression of eight genes encoding ethylene biosynthesis and signaling during development in Khasi mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) fruit pulp as well as during postharvest storage in the fruit pulp (at 4 °C and 20 °C). Gibberellic acid (GA3 ) is known to improve internal fruit quality and to mediate various stress responses during postharvest fruit storage in species like citrus.

WRKY proteins comprise a large family of transcription factors that play important roles in many aspects of physiological processes and adaption to environment. However, little information was available about the WRKY genes in pineapple (Ananas comosus), an important tropical fruits. The recent release of the whole-genome sequence of pineapple allowed us to perform a genome-wide investigation into the organization and expression profiling of pineapple WRKY genes.

During fresh fruit consumption, sensory texture is one factor that affects the organoleptic qualities. Chemical components of plant cell walls, including pectin, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, play central roles in determining the textural qualities. To explore the genes and regulatory pathways involved in fresh citrus’ perceived sensory texture, we performed mRNA-seq analyses of the segment membranes of two citrus cultivars, Shiranui and Kiyomi, with different organoleptic textures.

Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a basal angiosperm from the Lauraceae family. This species has a diploid genome with an approximated size of ~ 920 Mbp and produces a climacteric, fleshy and oily fruit. The flowering and fruit set are particularly prolonged processes, lasting between one to three months, generating important differences in physiological ages of the fruit within the same tree.

High temperature during grape berry ripening impairs the quality of fruits and wines. Veraison time, which marks ripening onset, is a key factor for determining climatic conditions during berry ripening. Understanding its genetic control is crucial to successfully breed varieties more adapted to a changing climate.

Bud dormancy is a crucial stage in perennial trees and allows survival over winter to ensure optimal flowering and fruit production. Recent work highlighted physiological and molecular events occurring during bud dormancy in trees. However, they usually examined bud development or bud dormancy in isolation.
