Mangrove-derived fungi are the potential source of novel metabolites, comprising unique molecular structures with diverse bioactivities. In this study, 32 fungal strains isolated from the Tan Dao mangrove forest in Khanh Hoa province were investigated for their ability to produce antimicrobial agents using the disc diffusion method.

Identification of unknown fungal species aids to the conservation of fungal diversity. As many fungal species cannot be cultured, morphological identification of those species is almost impossible. But, DNA barcoding technique can be employed for identification of such species.

The aim of our study is to test procalcitonin (PCT) as surrogate marker of identification of Candida spp. by blood culture (BC) and real-time-polymerase chain reaction (PCR), whether alone or in association with bacteria, in septic patients. Methods: We performed a single-centre retrospective study. We reviewed the clinical charts of patients with a diagnosis of severe sepsis or septic shock treated at our general intensive care unit from March 2009 to March 2013.

This research evaluated the biotechnological potential of fifteen native Trichoderma strains that were previously isolated from the rhizosphere of maize cultivated at the Estado de Mexico (Mexico). The radial growth rate of each fungal strain was assessed as well as the qualitative analysis of enzyme activity on specific culture media.

Fungal and bacterial rhizosphere microbiome associated with selected melon and snake melon genotypes
The total bacterial population in the rhizosphere of ten melon and two snake melon genotypes was significantly 59 to 68% higher than control soil. For most tested genotypes, a significant increase in the culturable rhizospheric actinomycetes, about 28.5 to 92.6%, was recorded comparatively to control soil. Fungal population counts in the rhizosphere of tested genotypes were significantly comparable to control.

This study aimed to investigate the antagonistic effect of three strains of the genus Bacillus on toxigenic fungi contaminating food commodities, with emphasis on two ochratoxigenic isolates (A. ochraceus, A. westerdijkiae) and two aflatoxigenic isolates (A. flavus and A. parasiticus). In vitro studies were carried out using two different methods for cultivation tested bacilli with fungal isolates – coincubation and dual culture method.

The fungicide fludioxonil over-stimulates the fungal response to osmotic stress, leading to overaccumulation of glycerol and hyphal swelling and bursting. Fludioxonil-resistant fungal strains that are null-mutants for osmotic stress response genes are easily generated through continual sub-culturing on sub-lethal fungicide doses.

Mango is regarded as „king of fruits‟ and is grown mainly in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Anthracnose is one of the devastating disease, known to cause yield loss from 10 to 80 per cent in orchard and also being post-harvest disease, it cause an economical loss to the tune of 15-20 per cent. The disease is caused by the fungal pathogen Colletotrichum gloeosprorioides.

The present study was carried out to recognize the effect of garlic different concentrations on control against Alternaria and Fusarium spp. under in-vitro condition. Per cent growth inhibitions were recorded and it was ranged from 64.90 to 90.12% and 60.91 to 92.40% for Alternaria and Fusarium spp. respectively. Garlic concentration 20%show best results with 90.12% and 92.40% inhibition of both the pathogen.

Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) is the most popular vegetable grown across the world. Wilt disease caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici is one of the most devastating and destructive disease of tomato, resulting in significant yield loss. The pathogen causing wilt disease in tomato was isolated and confirmed its pathogenicity in glasshouse experiment. The effect of fungal biocontrol agent Chaetomium spp. was studied against fusarium wilt pathogen under in vitro condition. Among the Chaetomium spp., Ch. cochiloides showed highest inhibition percentage of 64.

Maize ear rot caused by F. verticillioides which is prevalent on maize under Punjab conditions. The symptoms appear as white-pink fungal growth and causes “starburst” pattern of white streaks on the kernels. Thirty Fusarium isolates were isolated from the infected maize plant from different agro-chemical zones of Punjab.

The research was done to isolate the common fungal agent involved in mycotic keratitis attending tertiary care hospital. The purpose of isolating the organisms is for the early diagnosis and treatment of the patients. The research lead to the finding that, Corneal trauma was the most common predisposing factor in the pathogenesis of mycotic keratitis, which was mostly seen in farmers i.e, agriculturists who are in the actively working age group.

The present study was carried in the Department of Microbiology, MMIMSR, Haryana on 200 clinically suggested cases of corneal ulcers. Corneal scrapings were subjected to microscopy and culture. Of 200 suspected cases, 43.5% were culture positive. Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were the predominant gram positive and negative bacterial isolates. Aspergillus species was the most prevalent fungal isolate.
