Furrow opener

The project was taken to find out the designing parameters of the planter and the machine component for small power engine. In designing, engineering parameters like draft of the planter, working width, seed box capacity, number of furrow openers, power requirement and the engineering views were drawn. Based on the designing parameter and CAD component of the planter it is possible to develop the planter for the sowing of crops. The objective of the research papers is to design inclined plate planter and to draw the various engineering drawing views of the inclined plate planter.

Depth of sowing for seed spices are kept very shallow (1 to 3cm). Therefore, furrow openers commonly used in seed drills or planter are not very well suited for sowing of seed spices. Some of the spices seed e.g. cumin, coriander and fenugreek are highly sensitive to germination, if proper depth of sowing is not maintained. Even a small layer of soil over the seed affects the germination.

Bhoramdev seed drill is the most commonly used farm tool in Chhattisgarh. Never the less, using this plough as farm tool is labour intensive, time taking, making shallow depth and narrow cutting width. Thus, this research is initiated to come up with a solution to the aforementioned problems. Therefore, the objectives of this research were to model the basic components of animal drawn modified bhoramdev seed drill, to fabricate and test the prototype.

Small tractor operated seed planter with battery drive consists of a frame, furrow openers, individual seed boxes and battery drive, vertical rotor type seed metering mechanism, push button switch, and speed regulator. Seed metering mechanism gets a drive from the dc motor with aids of chain and sprocket arrangement instead of from ground wheel. As per the design calculations, the width of seed planter was 1.25 m. Shoe type furrow openers were selected to open the furrow. No. of furrow openers and row to row spacing was 5no.s and 25 cm respectively.

The performance evaluation of Animal Drawn Modification in the Existing Bhoramdav Seed Drill was carried out in an area of 0.05 ha at BRSMCAET&RS MUNGELI. It is a low cost line-sowing device in which seed metering is done manually by the operator by dropping the seeds in the funnel. Hence the skill of the operator determines the seed rate applied. It is a four row sowing device. Sowing is prime operation in cultivation practice of any crop which directly affects production. Therefore, timely sowing is necessary with available sources of power.

Vegetables are the cheapest source of natural nutrients. To achieve true nutritional selfsufficiency, the production of vegetables in India must be doubled by 2050. This can be achieved through better cultivation practices. In India most of the vegetable crops are transplanted by traditional manual method; which is a tiresome and labour consuming process. Thus mechanization of vegetable transplanting is an immediate need. On the way of mechanization lies the marginal land holdings and poor socio- economic status of farmers.

Proper tillage, precise placement and optimum coverage of seeds and fertilizers in the moist zone of soil are most critical for successful crop establishment. The present work was therefore taken up to study the soil coverage in the furrow with a developed furrow covering device with shovel and shoe type furrow opener. Experiments were conducted in the test soil bin with the three types of furrow openers like plain shovel, shovel with shoe and shovel+shoe+covering attachment with load of 5 kg to determine the performance on soil coverage and draft requirement.

A 15 hp mini tractor operated 4-row automatic onion transplanter was developed to transplant onion seedlings raised in hexagonal shaped (honeycomb) paper pot chain of length 800 mm, width 180 mm and depth 40 mm. A total of 128 seedlings were raised in this paper pot chain. The onion transplanter was developed to transplant 4- rows of onion seedlings at a time with a spacing of 10 cm between each row.

A field experiment was conducted at Regional Research Station, Karnal, CCS Haryana Agricultural University during spring 2017-18. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. The treatments comprises of four methods of planting viz. conventional planting at 75 cm (M1), half ridge open furrow irrigation planting at 75 cm (M2), wide bed and furrow paired row planting (M3) and wider planting (M4) at 120 cm and six different nitrogen levels viz. control (N1), 75 (N2), 100 (N3), 125 (N4), 150 (N5), 175 kg N ha-1 (N6).

A field experiment was carried out during rainy season of 2016 at the Instructional Farm, JNKVV College of Agriculture, Rewa (M.P.) “To study the effect of tillage and cultural practices on growth, yield and economics of kodo millet”. Kodo millet crop when grown by adopting conservation tillage practices and sowing of pigeonpea as intercrop followed by opening of conservation furrow between paired rows of pigeonpea (C2) resulted in better growth and development of kodo millet over rest of the tillage and cultural practices.

A seed metering mechanism of conventional precision planters are usually driven by ground wheel with chain and sprocket system and these mechanisms are of mechanical type. They are less efficient as there is a number of losses while transmitting the power. Due to continuous friction between moving parts, these devices are subjected to wear and tear; hence they require frequent maintenance. To improve the planting performance of precision planters, the best substitute is to develop an electronic meterized planter for maize.

Conventional every-furrow irrigation with open-end furrows (EFO) and blockedend furrows (EFB), and alternate every-other-furrow management with open-end furrows (AFO) and blocked-end furrows (AFB), were considered.
