Ebook "Fusarium head blight in Latin America" presents the current state of knowledge regarding mycological aspects that make wheat-Fusarium interaction, such as hyphal growth, morphogenesis in germinating spores, visualization of enzymatic hydrolysis, production of mycotoxins, inhibition of the hyphal growth by antagonist microorganisms, use of natural substances or by modification of the host resistance, as well as genetic analysis and expression of genes that regulate the infection.

Quantitative traits are common in nature, but quantitative pathogenicity has received only little attention in phytopathology. In this study, we used 100 Fusarium culmorum isolates collected from natural field environments to assess their variation for two quantitative traits, aggressiveness and deoxynivalenol (DON) production on wheat plants grown in four different field environments (location-year combinations).

T-2 toxin is a mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species that is highly toxic to animals. Recent studies have indicated that Selenomethionine (SeMet) have protective effect against mycotoxins-induced toxicity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of SeMet on T-2-toxin-induced liver injury in rabbit and explore its molecular mechanism.

Gibberella ear rot (GER) is one of the most economically important fungal diseases of maize in the temperate zone due to moldy grain contaminated with health threatening mycotoxins. To develop resistant genotypes and control the disease, understanding the host-pathogen interaction is essential.

Fusarium culmorum is an important pathogen causing head blight of cereals in Europe. This disease is of worldwide importance leading to reduced yield, grain quality, and contamination by mycotoxins. These mycotoxins are harmful for livestock and humans; therefore, many countries have strict regulatory limits for raw materials and processed food.

The Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti species complex (FIESC) comprises 33 phylogenetically distinct species that have been recovered from diverse biological sources, but have been most often isolated from agricultural plants and soils. Collectively, members of FIESC can produce diverse mycotoxins.

Fusarium graminearum is a destructive fungal pathogen of wheat, barley and other small grain cereals. During plant infection, the pathogen produces trichothecene mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON), which is harmful to human and livestock. FgGCN5 encodes a GCN5 acetyltransferase.

ncreased contamination of European and Asian wheat and barley crops with “emerging” mycotoxins such as enniatins or beauvericin, produced by Fusarium avenaceum and Fusarium tricinctum, suggest that these phylogenetically close species could be involved in future food-safety crises.

In the present study attempts have been made on the isolation and identification of fungi in order to study the mycoflora responsible to reduce the seed quality, longevity and vigor in the pulse of Hyacinth bean. Lablab purpureus L. is an annual plant that grows in poorly - drained soils belongs to the family Fabaceae. It contains high amount of protein, vitamins and minerals. Fungal cultures were isolated by using blotter and agar plate methods.22 fungal species and 14 genera were isolated.

The naturally toxigenic fungal flora, existing in conjunction with food production is most dominated genera namely, Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillium and to lesser extent the Alternaria, Claviceps and Stachybotrys. More than 300 mycotoxins are known to exist in nature. The economically important species of fungi producing significant mycotoxins as: aflatoxins (AFs), citrinin (CIT), cyclopiazonic acid (CPA), fumonisins (FBs), moniliformin (MON), ochratoxin A (OTA), deoxynivalenol (DON), nivalenol (NIV), T-2 toxin (T-2), patulin (PAT) and zearalenone (ZEA).

During storage, peanut seeds face many problems including deterioration that creates favorable conditions for mold growth and mycotoxin production. This study describes the diversity of molds responsible for groundnut rot during commercialized in the city markets of Douala-Cameroon. Peanut samples were collected in a ten markets in the city of Douala. It has been noted that the postharvest fungal flora of groundnuts in the city of Douala is composed of various genre of molds.
