Pediatric low-grade glioma (pLGG) is essentially a single pathway disease, with most tumors driven by genomic alterations affecting the mitogen-activated protein kinase/ERK (MAPK) pathway, predominantly KIAA1549::BRAF fusions and BRAF V600E mutations. This makes pLGG an ideal candidate for MAPK pathway-targeted treatments.

Ebook "Mitochondria and cell death" examines the role of mitochondria in different types of cell death, including apoptotic and necrotic cell deaths. Topics discussed include mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP) and the permeability transition pore; core processes such as calcium handling, fission and fusion, reactive oxygen species generation, and maintenance of mitochondrial DNA fidelity and protein folding homeostasis; and retrograde signaling between mitochondria and other cellular components, including the important role of mitochondria in antiviral immunity.

Ebook "Virus protein and nucleoprotein complexes" commences with a broad overview that places emphasis on virus assembly, followed by the capsid proteins of spherical viruses, helical virus nucleocapsids and viral envelope fusion. Then this book includes 16 more specific chapters dealing with the following: the ribonucleoprotein complex of negative-sense single-stranded RNA viruses;...

Ebook "Viral entry into host cells" for a virus to invade a host cell it needs to penetrate the physical barrier imposed by the plasma membrane. Viruses have evolved specialized surface proteins to meet this challenge. These proteins facilitate delivery of the viral genetic information into the host cell by either fusing the viral envelope with a host cell membrane or by forming membrane pores. Membrane fusion and pore formation critically depend on the engagement of host cell receptors and receptor choice is a key determinant of viral tropism.

The aim of this study was to sequence fulllength p72 gene of a field strain of ASFV causing typical ASF in Dong Nai province in 2020 and fuse this p72 gene with VSV G gene to generate a recombinant fusion gene G-p72 that could simultaneously express both proteins and stimulate a better host immune response than p72 expression alone.

Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytomas (JPAs) are one of the most common pediatric brain tumors, and they are driven by aberrant activation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. RAF-fusions are the most common genetic alterations identified in JPAs, with the prototypical KIAA1549-BRAF fusion leading to loss of BRAF’s auto-inhibitory domain and subsequent constitutive kinase activation.

Galectin-3 (Gal-3), the only chimeric β-galactosides-binding lectin, consists of Gal-3N (N-terminal regulatory peptide) and Gal-3C (C-terminal carbohydrate-recognition domain). Interestingly, Gal-3C could specifically inhibit endogenous full-length Gal-3 to exhibit anti-tumor activity. Here, we aimed to further improve the anti-tumor activity of Gal-3C via developing novel fusion proteins.

Mitofusin 2 (MFN2) plays an important role in many tumors, but how its role in renal clear cell carcinoma needs further research. Methods In this study, we analyzed the expression of MFN2 in renal clear cell carcinoma tissues and normal kidney tissues through the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and our clinical samples.

The long non-coding RNA metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is a cancer biomarker. Furthermore, fusion of the MALAT1 gene with glioma-associated oncogene 1 (GLI1) is a diagnostic marker of plexiform fibromyxoma and gastroblastoma; however, the function of this fusion gene remains unexplored.

Polyploid giant cancer cells (PGCCs) have been observed in epithelial ovarian tumors. They can resist antimitotic drugs, thus participating in tumor maintenance and recurrence. Although their origin remains unclear, PGCC formation seems to be enhanced by conditions that trigger the unfolded protein response (UPR) such as hypoxia or chemotherapeutic drugs like paclitaxel.

Tropomyosin receptor kinase (TRK) fusion proteins resulting from neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase (NTRK) gene fusions are rare primary oncogenic drivers in a wide array of tumors. Larotrectinib is a first-in-class, highly selective, central nervous system-active TRK inhibitor approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), European Medicines Agency (EMA), and over 40 countries for the treatment of TRK fusion solid tumors in adult and pediatric patients.

A high density lipoprotein (HDL)-linked enzyme with antioxidant and antiatherogenic properties, paraoxonase1(PON1), prevents the formation of atherosclerotic lesions in humans. In the present study, a recombinant hPON1 gene was produced using a small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO) fusion protein expression system. To that end, the hPON1 gene was amplified from human liver-ready cDNA, cloned into the expression vector pET SUMO, and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3).

The results showed that the expression level of the H5TGpII-ELP-IgMFc protein in plant raw extract was stronger than that of two other proteins analyzed in this paper. Evaluation of biofunction showed that the haemagglutination titre (HA titre) of the total solution protein extract containing H5TGpII-IgMFc protein was highest (64 HAU) compared to that containing two remaining proteins (8 HAU).
