A field experiment was carried out at ‘A-B’ Block farm of BCKV, West Bengal, during subsequent winter seasons of 2017-18 and 2018-19 with grass pea variety Ratan (Bio L-212). Ten treatment combinations were laid out in a factorial RBD consisting seed priming with Ammonium molybdate @ 0.5 g kg-1 seed and foliar feeding at pre-flowering or a second spray at 15 days interval using 2% Urea or 0.5% NPK (19:19:19) to analyse their effect on quality and nutrient uptake of relay grass pea.

To identify the best source of nitrogen among organic and inorganic sources and their combinations for better growth, flowering behaviour and fruit yield of chilli cv. Bulet, an experiment was conducted in Gangetic Alluvial plain of West Bengal. Six organic manures in different combinations were applied along with Urea at three levels (25%, 50%, and 75). Result showed that plant height and number of branches per plant was found maximum with a combination of vermicompost and urea at 50%. Flowering was delayed with increase in inorganic nitrogen level (25, 50 and 75%) in the growing media.

An experiment was conducted for two consecutive years during rabi season of 2014-15 and 2015-16 to manage the onion thrips using three treatment modules viz., M1- IPM module, M2- Farmers’ practice and M3-Untreated control. It has been observed that the IPM module was the best in achieving the maximum leaf growth and bulb yield in both the years (2014-15 and 2015-16) followed by farmers’ practice module.

Optimum schedule of irrigation in limited water resources is a vital issue for sustainable production of ornamental plants. A field investigation was conducted during 2012-2013 at the experimental field of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal, India to study the effect of three irrigation schedule viz., IW/CPE 0.4, IW/CPE 0.8 and IW/CPE 1.0 and three varieties viz., Prajwal, Calcutta single and Calcutta double on yield, water use and economics of tuberose. The performances of five biodrainage species were monitored for its soil moisture depletion, groundwater table depression and soil fertility improvement in waterlogged lowland of Indo-Gangetic alluvial plains of West Bengal. The results of the study showed that all biodrainage plantations had differential potential in extracting surplus water from deeper soil layers and consequent recession of groundwater table.

The experiment was conducted in the ‘A-B’ Block Farm of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya situated at Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal during both summer and kharif seasons of 2016 with an objective to study the seasonal variation in incidence of insect pests on two varieties of black gram viz. Pant U-31 and Pant U-19 as well as their relationship with abiotic factors in the lower Gangetic plains of West Bengal. The results revealed Aphis craccivora, Bemisia tabaci, Megalurothrips distalis, Maruca vitrata, Helicoverpa armigera, Spilarctia obliqua as the major pests of the crop.

A field experiment was carried out in the CR Farm of Gayeshpur, BCKV, Nadia, West Bengal, India during rabi season of 2015-16 and 2016-17 to find out suitable hybrid variety and optimum spacing for different hybrids. Three hybrid varieties of mustard viz. Kesari 5111(V1), Kesari 5222(V2) and Kesari Gold(V3) were taken as treatments in the main plot, whereas, four spacing - 30cm × 10cm (S1), 30cm × 20cm (S2), 40cm × 20cm (S3) and 40cm × 30cm (S4) were imposed as subplot treatment.

Integrated management of aphelenchoides besseyi infesting tuberose in gangetic plains of west Bengal
An experiment was conducted over two years from 2014 to 2016 to find out the suitable management tactics against Aphelenchoides besseyi Christie in tuberose. The experiment was planned in ‘Strip Factorial Design’. Three nematode management modules, two susceptible crop cultivars and two spacings were used in the experiment. Management modules were adopted in order to manage the population of A. besseyi in tuberose to minimize the infestation for sustainable production of tuberose floral spikes.
