A novel alginate based hydrogel was successfully prepared and tested for the solid phase microextraction of medium-to-high polarity compounds, when supported in a polypropylene (PP) fiber. Pure alginate when added onto the surface of the PP fiber, resulted in a significant improvement in the extraction efficiency ofthe analytes (exceptfor -estradiol).

Nevertheless, their application potential is limited due to an inherent insolubility and infusibility, preventing an easy processing into functional objects like membranes.

Tuning the selective sorption features of microporous organic networks is of great importance for subsequent applications in gas uptake and hiding, while it is more attractive in terms of being both time and cost effective to realize these optimizations without using functional groups in the core and linker. “Knitting” is one of the easiest and most used method to obtain a broad scope of hyper-crosslinked polymers on a large scale from aromatic structures that do not contain functional groups for polymerization.

The sorption capacity index a is proposed as a criterion parameter for assessing the quality of impregnated activated charcoals. It was found that this parameter does not depend on the dynamic conditions during the sorbent test. It was shown that values of the sorption capacity index allow to recommend iodine sorbents for industrial gas cleaning processes.
