Nutritional impact symptoms (NISs) are proposed to be a key indicator of decreased dietary intake in patients with solid cancer. Cancer patients frequently experience NIS from the disease itself and from disease treatment side effects that impact oral and gastrointestinal health. This study also sought to identify the types of treatment and other factors related to dietary intake for solid cancer patients.

Biliary tract cancer (BTC) is a relatively rare but aggressive gastrointestinal cancer with a high mortality rate. Cancer stem cell (CSC) populations play crucial roles in tumor biology and are responsible for the low response to anti-cancer treatment and the high recurrence rate. This study investigated the role of Transgelin-2 (TAGLN2), overexpressed in CSC in BTC cells, and analyzed its expression in patient tissues and serum to identify potential new targets for BTC.

Recently, we introduced Stroma-AReactive-Invasion-Front-Areas (SARIFA) as a novel hematoxylin–eosin (H&E)-based histopathologic prognostic biomarker for various gastrointestinal cancers, closely related to lipid metabolism. To date, no studies on SARIFA, which is defined as direct tumor-adipocyte-interaction, beyond the alimentary tract exist.

Colon cancer (CC) is a malignancy associated with significant morbidity and mortality within the gastrointestinal tract. Recurrence and metastasis are the main factors affecting the prognosis of CC patients undergoing radical surgery; consequently, we attempted to determine the impact of immunity-related genes.

The risk category of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are closely related to the surgical method, the scope of resection, and the need for preoperative chemotherapy. We aimed to develop and validate convolutional neural network (CNN) models based on preoperative venous-phase CT images to predict the risk category of gastric GISTs.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the digestive tract. Acquired functional mutations in the tyrosine-protein kinase growth factor receptor proto-oncogene (KIT) and platelet-derived growth factor-alpha gene lead to increased tyrosine kinase activity, which is considered a key factor in the pathogenesis of GIST.

The gut-liver axis plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the correlations between the gut microbiome and the liver tumor transcriptome in patients with HCC and the impact of the gut microbiota on clinical outcome are less well-understood.

Ebook "The biology of gastric cancers" represents the very first volume devoted to the subject of the basic biology of gastric cancer. Although there were major achievements 30–40 years ago in the description of the histopathology of stomach tumors and the preneoplastic conditions that preceded these lesions, it was of course the pioneering (and Nobel prize– winning) studies involving the discovery of Helicobacter pylori by Marshall and Warren that set the stage for the more recent insights on the role of chronic inflammation and cancer.

Understanding the mechanistic effects of novel immunotherapy agents is critical to improving their successful clinical translation. These effects need to be studied in preclinical models that maintain the heterogenous tumor microenvironment (TME) and dysfunctional cell states found in a patient’s tumor.

Carney’s triad is a rare syndrome comprising gastrointestinal stromal tumor, extra-adrenal paraganglioma, and pulmonary chondroma along with newer additions of adrenal adenoma and esophageal leiomyoma. The triad is completely manifest in only 25–30% cases, with most patients presenting with two out of three parts of the syndrome.

SMARCB1, also known as INI1, is a member of a large protein complex involved in chromatin remodeling and thus the regulation of gene expression. It is located on chromosome 22q11.2. SMARCB1 tumors have been found in various locations, including the sinonasal region, gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system (in atypical teratoid and rhabdoid tumors), and perirenal region (in malignant rhabdoid tumors) in both adults and children.
