The objectives of this study were to identify promising rice genotypes and evaluate the genetic variance and effectiveness of selection of the rice varieties for several yield attributing traits. A varietal trial of fifteen rice genotypes was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications in a farmer’s field in Sundarbazar, Lamjung, Nepal during the rainy season of 2018.

Twenty one genotypes including check Krishna were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications during kharif-2017 at research farm of TCA, Dholi for estimation of genetic variability among them. Genotypes varied significantly for all the morpho-physiological characters indicating the presence of considerable variability among the genotypes. Significant bidirectional shift was observed in the mean values as compared to better check, thus provided scope for selection.

An experiment was conducted to generate a broad genetic variability through induced mutation using physical and chemical mutagens. Three doses each of gamma rays (20, 40 and 60kR), ethyl methane sulphonate (0.2, 0.4 and 0.6%), nitrosoguanidine (0.005, 0.010, and 0.015%), maleic hydrazide (0.01, 0.02 and 0.03%) and their combinations were administered to the seed of two greengram varieties, Sujata and OBGG-52.

The present investigation was under taken with the objectives to estimate genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for yield and yield contributing components of cucumber. The experimental materials for this investigation were fourteen genotypes of cucumber consisting of parthenocarpic, gynoecious and monecious germplasms crossed in line × tester mating design produced thirty three hybrids (F1). Thirty three F1 crosses along with their parents were evaluated in two environments viz.

Cycads occur in lowland forests and are threatened by their degradation, fragmentation and over-exploitation. Our results indicate that cycad population sizes were very small (less 100 individuals) with high propagules. These increased mating between closely related individuals growing in clumps. The allozyme data show although all studied cycads maintained high levels of genetic diversity, an average of 0.556 (0.491 in C. hoabinhensis to 0.598 in C. chevalieri ), the degree of inbreeding was high.

In order compute genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance expressed as per cent of mean, an investigation was carried out with 79 plants of F2 population of MFC-09-12 × PGCP-12 and 90 plants of F2population of MFC-08-14 × PL-3 in cowpea. Considerably high amount of variability was observed for the thirteen quantitative and qualitative characters under study.

Biotherapeutics (BTs), one of the fastest growing classes of drug molecules, offer several advantages over the traditional small molecule pharmaceuticals because of their relatively high specificity, low off-target effects, and biocompatible metabolism, in addition to legal and logistic advantages. However, their clinical utility is limited, among other things, by their high immunogenic potential and/or variable therapeutic efficacy in different patient populations.

Guava (Psidium guajava L; Myrtaceae) popularly known as “apple of tropics” is an important fruit crop of India. It is largely a self-pollinated crop, but crosspollination also does occur. This results in a large variability in the seedling population. Among cultivars, substantial variation exists in terms of growth pattern, yielding behavior, fruit characters (peel, shape etc.) and physio-chemical composition, aroma, pulp to seed ratio, seed characters. Assessment of variability can be achieved through morphological characters, chemical composition and by biotechnological tools.

The experiment was conducted in experimental Farm, Regional Research Station, Anand Agricultural University from July to November 2018toestimate the extent of variability present in rice genotypes with respect to yield and its component traits. The estimates of genotypic and phenotypic variances for the characters like plant height, effective tillers per plant, number of grains per panicle, grain yield per plant, straw yield per plant, harvest index and 1000 grain weight, genotypic variance contributed larger in phenotypic variance.

A database consisting of 23 tripeptides was used to study the quantitative relationships between electric surface potential descriptors and antioxidant activity QESARs. The important structural descriptors SaaNH_acnt, SsOH_acnt, SaaN, SaaN_acnt, SsssCH, SaaaC, SsNH3p, SdO, SdO_acnt were selected for constructing the linear models QESARs with genetic algorithm. The best 4-variable linear model QESARlinear including the structural descriptors SaaN, SdO, SdO_acnt and SsOH_acnt was constructed. The quality QESARlinear was exhibited in statistical values R2 fitness of 97.

Nourseothricins (syn. Streptothricins), agroupof nucleoside peptides produced by several streptomycete strains, contain a polyb-lysine chain of variable length attached in amide linkage to the amino sugar moiety gulosamine of the nucleoside portion. We show that the nourseothricin-pro-ducingStreptomyces nourseicontains an enzyme (NpsA) of an apparentMr56 000 that speci®cally activatesb-lysine by adenylation but does not bind to it as a thioester.

Statistical analysis, including variable reduction and linear discrimi-nant analysis was performed on sensitive and multiresistant cells spectra in order to establish a diagnostic tool for multiresistant pattern. For each of the twomethods of data reduction tested [genetic algorithm or principal component analysis (PCA)] discriminationbetween the twocell lineswas found to be possible....

Intracellularly expressed antibodies (intrabodies) have been used to inhibit the function of various kinds of protein inside cells. However, problems with stability and functional expression of intrabodies in the cytosol remain unsolved. In this study, we show that single-chain variable fragment (scFv) intrabodies constructed with a heavy chain variable (VH) leader signal sequence at the N-terminus were translocated from the endoplasmic reti-culum into the cytosol of T lymphocytes and inhibited the function of the target molecule, Wiskott–Aldrich syndrome protein (WASP)....

Vertebrate metallothioneins are found to contain Zn(II) and variable amounts of Cu(I),in vivo, and are believed to be important for d 10 -metal control. To date, structural information is available for the Zn(II) and Cd(II) forms, but not for the Cu(I) or mixed metal forms. Cu(I) binding to metallothionein-1 has been investigated by circular dichroism, luminescence and 1 H NMR using two synthetic fragments representing thea- and the b-domain.

In eukaryotes, meiosis leads to genetically variable gametes through recom-bination between homologous chromosomes of maternal and paternal ori-gin. Chromatin organization following meiotic recombination is critical to ensure the correct segregation of homologous chromosomes into gametes. However, the mechanism of chromatin organization after meiotic recombi-nation is unknown.

The last decade has seen clear links emerge between the genetic determi-nants and neuropathological hallmarks of parkinsonism and dementia, notably with the discovery of mutations ina-synuclein and tau. Following the description of mutations in LRRK2 linked to Parkinson’s disease, char-acterized by variable pathology including eithera-synuclein or tau deposi-tion, it has been suggested that LRRK2 functions as an upstream regulator of Parkinson’s disease pathogenesis.
