In genetic analysis of agronomic traits, quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that control the same phenotype are often closely linked. Furthermore, many QTLs are localized in specific genomic regions (QTL clusters) that include naturally occurring allelic variations in different genes

In this study, we aimed to understand the genetic structure of 440 individual wild cherries sampled from 22 different populations in Turkey using 10 SSR molecular markers. With the molecular variance analysis, we found that the genetic diversity within the population is approximately 88.5% and the genetic diversity among the populations is approximately 9.8%. Thus, wild cherry genetic diversity within populations is high whereas it is moderate between tested populations (FST values 0.02-0.16).

In addition to genetic variation, epigenetic variation plays an important role in determining various biological processes. The importance of natural genetic variation to crop domestication and improvement has been widely investigated. However, the contribution of epigenetic variation in crop domestication at population level has rarely been explored.

Meiotic recombination is the foundation for genetic variation in natural and artificial populations of eukaryotes. Although genetic maps have been developed for numerous plant species since the late 1980s, few of these maps have provided the necessary resolution needed to investigate the genomic and epigenomic features underlying meiotic crossovers.

Dorystaechas hastata is a relict endemic medicinal and aromatic plant under risk of extinction. Assessment of genetic diversity and association between geographic distribution and genetic variation could benefit to the conservation efforts. The objectives of this study were to assess genetic diversity and population differentiation of the species in its natural habitat.

Understanding how and why genetic variation is partitioned across geographic space is of fundamental importance to understanding the nature of biological species. How geographical isolation and local adaptation contribute to the formation of ecotypically differentiated groups of plants is just beginning to be understood through population genomic studies. We used whole genome sequencing combined with association study of climate to discover the drivers of differentiation in the perennial C4 grass Panicum hallii.

Molecular characterization is helpful in understanding the phylogenetic relationship among various germplasm to reveal the genetic diversity among the used parental genotypes. Among several efficient methods for revealing genetic variability within and among plant populations, one of the most widely applied methods is ISSR marker analysis. ISSR, markers are commonly used because they are quick, simple and environment non-sensitive enabling genetic diversity analysis in several types of plant material like natural populations, population in breeding programmes.

An experiment was framed to study the variability, nature of gene action and number of genes controlling the characters in bacterial blight and blast resistance genes introgressed three backcross population in rice. Mean variation was high for number of grains and plant height for all the crosses. The characters like plant height, number of productive tillers and number of grains were showed complementary gene interaction for all back cross population. While for thousand grain weight and single plant yield were explained complementary gene interactions in two backcross populations.

Herbivory imposes an important selective pressure on plants. In Arabidopsis thaliana leaf trichomes provide a key defense against insect herbivory; however, trichome production incurs a fitness cost in the absence of herbivory.

The genetic structure and differentiation of wild emmer wheat suggests that genetic diversity is eco-geographically structured. However, very little is known about the structure and extent of the heritable epigenetic variation and its influence on local adaptation in natural populations.

Understanding the genetic complexity of traits is an important objective of small grain temperate cereals yield and adaptation improvements. Bi-parental quantitative trait loci (QTL) linkage mapping is a powerful method to identify genetic regions that co-segregate in the trait of interest within the research population. However, recently, association or linkage disequilibrium (LD) mapping using a genome-wide association study (GWAS) became an approach for unraveling the molecular genetic basis underlying the natural phenotypic variation.

This study was conducted to have basic information about the genetic nature of variation present in the clonal population of sugarcane. For this mean, range, genotypic coefficient of variation, phenotypic coefficient of variation, broad sense heritability and genetic advance was calculated using 144 sugarcane clones along with five standards in augmented block design. All the clones were differed significantly for all the 13 traits indicating that sufficient amount of variability was present in the experimental material.

Development of SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) marker is an important step to initiate the molecular breeding and genetic based studies. Identification and validation of polymorphic SNP will be valuable resource for gene tagging through linkage mapping/QTL mapping. In present study, two ecological ecotypes of Arabidopsis thaliana i.e. Col-0 and Don-0 exhibited variation at phenotypic level (leaf, flower, siliques and root related traits) and genotypic level (SNPs). Out of 500 SNPs, total 365 polymorphic SNPs were validated on Sequenome MassARRAY.
