Ebook "Characterization and authentication of olive and other vegetable oils: New analytical methods" presents new methods for the characterization of vegetable oils, with focus in olive oil, according to geographical and botanical origin, genetic variety and other issues influencing product quality. A wide variety of analytical techniques have been employed, such as various chromatographic techniques (different gas and liquid chromatography methods), an electronic nose, infrared spectroscopy and expert-panel evaluation.

Ebook "Neotropical insect galls" brings to light the most recent findings on the biogeography, biodiversity, host plant induction and natural history of gall inducing insects in the Neotropical region. We attempt to summarize the work done so far in the region, promote several syntheses on many aspects such as host induction, host specialization, distribution among the several vegetation types and zones, the origin of super hosts and the mechanisms leading to geographical patterns in their distribution.

This paper presents a lightweight digital signature-based routing message and node authentication solution for wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs). The lightweight geographical security routing protocol (ECDSA-TPGF) is proposed on the basis of improving the original two-phase greedy geographical forwarding protocol (TPGF), in which we have added the solution Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and cyclic redundancy check (CRC) to create a digital signature for a sensor node attached to a routing message.

Excessive salt consumption has been found to cause many negative effects on human health. To date, many researches have been conducted to reduce the sodium content of the diet. This study focused on the comparison of saltiness intensity and other parameters in timeintensity curves of four commercial grain salts in four regions of Viet Nam (Bac Lieu, Thanh Hoa, Sa Huynh, Vung Tau), one flower salt in Sa Huynh and a control sample with two particle sizes of 1-2 mm and 2-3 mm to find out their taste perception characteristics.

Discerning the traits evolving under neutral conditions from those traits evolving rapidly because of various selection pressures is a great challenge. We propose a new method, composite selection signals (CSS), which unifies the multiple pieces of selection evidence from the rank distribution of its diverse constituent tests.

This research uses empirical data from a cross-sectional survey of households that was specifically designed to examine the vulnerability and resilience of households to global macroeconomic shocks. In early 2011 six communities in each country were surveyed, ranging from inner-urban squatter settlements of the respective capital cities to some of the most geographically distant areas in each country. The original contribution of this thesis is that it marks the first time that the micro effects of macroeconomic events are studied in such a broad range of communities in either country.

Rocks contain a large number of elements such as Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, and Ti. The determination of those element contents is important in geological and geographical exploration as well as the original identification and classification of rocks. In the present study, we analyzed rock samples after being treated by microwave using flame atomic and molecular absorption spectroscopy.

This study aimed at discriminating the Turkish Taşköprü garlic, possessing protected geographical indication (GI) in Turkey and GI registration from the European Union, from the other samples. For this reason, the combination of headspacegas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-GC-MS) analysis of the volatile organosulfur compounds (VOSCs) and two multivariate analysis techniques, namely hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA), were employed for classifying the garlic samples on the basis of their geographical origin.

Royal jelly (RJ) is reflecting the flora around the apiaries as a result of the foraging activity of honeybees and therefore, pollen analysis could be used to verify its botanical/geographical origin. Colon cancer treatment by means of chemotherapeutics agents reflects a substantial problem for the organism due to high toxicity to other viable cells of the body. To explore a chemopreventive approach to enhancing colon cancer treatment efficacy, the antioxidant and antiproliferative effects of RJ in HT-29 colon cancer cells were assessed.
