Gerbera varieties

An experiment was conducted to evaluate ten varieties of gerbera under polyhouse conditions in Hyderabad. Vegetative, flowering and flower characters varied significantly among the cultivars and variations in different growth parameters were prominent. Mean performance of the cultivars revealed that cv. Helix recorded maximum plant height, flower diameter, flower stalk diameter and ray florets.

The present experiment was carried out during December 2019 to April 2020 in Research Field, Department of Horticulture, SHUATS, Prayagraj. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design (RBD), with ten verities of Gerbera, the varieties were replicated thrice.

Laura, Szantal, Delfin, Newada, Olympia, Kormoran, Partrizia, Rock, Feliks and Samuraj for growth and flowering under naturally ventilated polyhouse at polyhouse complex, Department of Horticulture (Vegetable and Floriculture), Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur, Bihar during 2014-2015.

A study was carried out from October, 2013 to February, 2015 at the Horticulture Research Station, Mondouri, of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya under subtropical plains, to evaluate the growth and flowering of 11 cultivars of Gerbera under polyhouse (Stanza, Inferno, Preintense, Brilliance, Balance, Paradisi, Goliath, Walhalla, Rosalin, Jaffna, Daneallean).Among the varieties studied, there were highly significant variations observed for growth, yield and quality parameters.

The experiment was conducted at Hi-Tech Greenhouse of CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana during 2008-09 to evaluate the different gerbera varieties under greenhouse condition. Ten gerbera varieties viz., Amulet, Dana Ellen, Doni, Goliath, Paco, Rosalin, Salvadore, Savannah, Sunway and Winter Queen were selected for evaluation. Healthy plants were planted on raised beds in two rows at spacing of 35 × 30 cm in March, 2008.

Gerbera is one of the important commercial cut flower which is in great demand in domestic as well as international market. Though suited for a wide range of climates, the crop’s performance varies in different locations and climatic conditions. The present investigation was conducted during Rabi season of 2010–11and 2011-12 at Greenhouse Complex, ASPEE College of Horticulture and Forestry, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat with an object to evaluate suitable varieties on the basis of growth, flower and yield parameters of gerbera under South Gujarat conditions.

An efficient protocol was developed for commercial multiplication of gerbera using young capitulum as explant across different varieties of gerbera. Media for culture establishment, shoot regeneration, multiplication were standardized. Mercuric chloride treatment (0.1%) for 2 minutes was found to be the best surface sterilant for capitulum explants resulting in the minimum per cent contaminated growing cultures (17.27%).

Storage at 4ºC with 95% RH was evaluated as the best condition to maintain the shelf life of gerbera flowers of different varieties. Flower buds were packed in plastic bag and immersed in water, and then stored at ambient and also inside cold room of Ecofrost. Post storage life of gerbera decreased with increase in storage duration. The cold room stored flowers had shown post dry storage life 2.5 hours in ambient condition, even after taken out after 13 days of cold storage.

The present Study entitled “RAPD Based Evaluation of Genetic Fidelity of in vitro Propagated Gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii Bolus) Variety 1385 and 1201” was carried out at carried out at Department of Plant Biotechnology SDMVM’s College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Georai Tanda, Paithan Road, Aurangabad (M.S.), 431001. The present study has been planned to evaluate genetic fidelity among two different cultivars of gerbera using DNA based molecular marker RAPD with following objectives.
