Cadmium pollution now is one of the main environmental problems. Growing of plants hyper accumulators of Cd can help to remediate the polluted soils. Species Linum usitatissimum L. is one of such crops. Cadmium concentrations were analysed in the ashes of adult plants by x-ray fluorescence analyzer BRA – 18. The presence of pollutants did not influence flax germination ability, but tested genotypes showed different degrees of cadmium resistance.

A study was conducted at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar for determining the ability of various seed vigour parameters to predict the field emergence of 34 varieties of wheat. Twelve seed vigour parameters were evaluated viz. test weight, standard germination, seedling length, seedling dry weight, vigour index-I, vigour index-II, accelerated ageing test, electrical conductivity, tetrazolium test, dehydrogenase activity test, field emergence index and seedling establishment.

A potted experiment was carried out in the net house of the Plant Breeding Unit, TRRI, Aduthurai in 2020 to screen and evaluate the performance of diverse rice genotypes for anaerobic germination ability with a view to select the suitable genotypes for multiple stress tolerance (drought and anaerobic germination) that will fit into the existing niche in the DSR. The aim of this experiment is to identify short duration genotypes with early vigour and potential to germinate under anaerobic condition.

This shows that Roselle seed is a dense mineral source and confirmed that Roselle seed is a rich source of nutrients. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of salinity on germination and emergence of chilli cultivars and to investigate the ability for genetic salt tolerance during germination and seedling growth. Although some of the chilli genotypes have salinity tolerance to some extent, more attention is required to assess the cultivars for salinity resistance/tolerance so as to screen them and select best types suitable to cultivate under areas prone to soil salinity.

A systematic and comparative study on mutagenic ability of different doses of ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS, an alkylating agent), gamma rays (an ionizing radiation) and EMS + gamma rays was carried out in a well-adapted desi chickpea variety HPG17. All mutagenic treatments were effective in inducing genetic variability. A proportional decrease in germination of mutagen treated seeds as well as subsequent plant survival was observed with increase in mutagen dose.

Violar tricolor belongs to Viola genus, Violaceae family, Violar tricolor plant is not only grown as an ornamental plant, but also a medicinal herb. In this study, some of factors affect on the process of micropropagation were investigated. In the experiment of sterilization explants, seed germination and shoot formation ability of the Violar tricolor L. reached the best result when they were sterilized by 0.1% HgCl2 for 1 minute.

Endophytes are the micro-organism which shares the life long relation with the host. The bacterial endophytes promote the growth directly and indirectly by several mechanisms. Keeping in mind, the present investigation has been carried out to evaluate the bacterial endophytes for their plant growth promotion in vitro condition. Four screened bacterial antagonists viz., SVC 11, BE 1, NGB 21 and M1W1 were evaluated for the germination and the vigour of French bean, brinjal and rapeseed mustard seeds. The bacteria were used individual as well as in consortium mode on the respective seeds.

Stem rot of rice (Oryza sativae L.) caused by Sclerotium oryzae Catt. is found to occur frequently in Manipur infecting all cultivated lowland rice cultivars and become a major concern in rice production.
