  • The study was aimed to investigate the effects of different microwave heating times (1, 2, and 3 min at output microwave of 800 W) in comparison with the traditional heating (3 min, 110oC) on some physico-chemical properties and sensory evaluation. The consumer survey for the final product use was also conducted to determine whether there is a significant difference in general liking of the product with gender. The results indicated that the product with the shorter microwave heating time contained higher protein and reducing sugar compared to traditional heating.

  • Statistically significant differences in seed germination rate occurred between treatments. Growth indicators such as stem height, root length, and leaf area were measured after 14 d after treatment with water containing NBs. Statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences in the dry weight of samples between treatments although these differences were quite small.

  • Six fungicides viz., captan 50 WP, copper oxychloride 50 WP, dodine 65 WP, mancozeb75 WP, propineb70 WP and zineb 80 WP were evaluated against rice sheath blight (Thanatephorus cucumeris). The in-vitro evaluation of these fungicides through poisoned food technique at five different concentrations viz., 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 µg a.i ml-1 indicated that mancozeb proved the most effective exhibiting mean mycelial growth inhibition of 95.26 per cent followed by captan and dodine with 93.80 and 93.66 per cent, respectively. Copper oxychloride proved least effective and resulted in only 44.

  • Ninety-three early generation sugarcane clones were evaluated for different morphological and juice quality characters among early generation sugarcane clones. Highest genotypic coefficient of variance (GCV) and phenotypic coefficient of variance (PCV) were recorded for Number of millable cane (NMC) and single cane weight respectively. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of means was observed for germination percent, NMC/hectare, cane height and inter node length. It indicated that direct selection of those traits would be effective.

  • The present study aims at evaluating the possible allelopathic potential of Moringa peregrine Forssk. on some growth attributes of two economically important food crops; Hordeum vulgare and Trigonellafoenum-graecum. The results indicate that Hordeumvulgareis more sensitive to Moringa peregrine leaves aqueous extract than Trigonellafoenum-graecum, and a concentration of 2.5% of that extract express the highest allelopathic effect on the degree of inhibition on seed germination of Hordeum vulgare.

  • Leucaena leucocephala is a medium-sized, multipurpose tree which is a valuable source of pulpwood, small timber, fuel wood, fodder and green manure. Poor and delayed seed germination is reported due to seed collection at improper maturity stage coupled with physical dormancy. Hence, the present study was carried out to determine the exact maturity stage for seed collection at three locations of northern India i.e. Agra (S1), Mathura (S2) and Hathrus (S3).

  • An experiment was conducted to assess the storability of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) seed lots based on vigour tests during 2015-16. Nineteen seed lots with varying vigour levels based on different germination percentages were taken and replicated four times. The results indicated that seeds with higher vigour were able to retain the vigour for longer period (at the end of storage period of six months). The vigorous lots recorded higher quality parameters at the end of storage period.

  • A study was undertaken to investigate the effect of magnetic treatment on enzyme activation of paddy seed under laboratory and nursery conditions. A magnetic seed treater having aluminum container fitted with ten 250 gauss magnets on copper pipes in staggered fashion was used. The container could be rotated around the horizontal axis. The dry seeds were treated by putting the seeds in the container and rotated the container for different time periods (15 min without magnet (control) and 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90 min with magnet).

  • Field experiment was conducted on “Effect of climatic factor and date of sowing on wheat crop in Allahabad condition, Uttar Pradesh” at Forest Nursery, College of Forestry, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad, (U.P.). The objective of this research was to find out the role of date of sowing and climatic factors on different stages in wheat crop. The result of study indicated that after date of sowing, the maximum germination of seed was observed within 1-7 days and total 78 % of germination achieved.

  • In the present investigation efforts were made to test the influence of soil moisture on the viability of sclerotium of groundnut stem rot causing pathogen Sclerotium rolfsi. Based on the results least sclerotial germination (76.66) occurred at soil pH 9.0 and this indicates that basic pH is less favorable for sclerotial germination. Moisture levels of 50 per cent (control) and 40 per cent were found to be best for sclerotial germination (100%).

  • Seed ageing is influenced by two factors moisture and temperature. The deterioration of the stored seed is a natural phenomenon and the seeds tend to lose viability even under ideal storage conditions. The present study was carried out in the Department of Seed Science and Technology Section, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, India. This study aimed at evaluating efficiency of different pickings of cotton seed vigor potential during storage.

  • Traditional fermented products are those products with are indigenous to people and people of the local area prepare them with the help of their ethnic knowledge from the ancestors. There are uncountable varieties of traditional food present in the world. One such country is India, where numerous varieties of traditional food products are present due to the variation in culture, geographical indication and variability in the raw material present in that particular locality (grains, milk, plant sources).

  • The pure, healthy and dry seeds of four mungbean varieties i.e., Meha, K 851, GM 3 and GM 4 were irradiated with different doses of gamma rays (400, 500 and 600 Gy) for study the effect on seed germination and seedling vigour such as germination per cent, shoot length (cm), root length (cm), fresh weight (g) and dry weight (g). For LD50 recorded near to the 600 Gy gamma rays as per survival per cent in the all four mungbean varieties. The GM 4 was observed more sensitive, whereas, Meha was recorded more resistance for most of all traits.
