Little is known about the phytotoxic effects of essential oils from Pine species, GC and GC/MS analysis of Pinus radiata D. Don essential oil obtained from needles, resulted in the identification of 49 components comprising 97.6 % of the oil totality. The composition was l dominated by monoterpene hydrocarbons (86.4 %) with β-pinene (40.2 %), limonene (25.5 %) and α-pinene (15.2 %) were the major compounds.

The study highlights species E. citriodora found to be more promising for weed control and subsequently selected using different concentrations for the second experiment. Bioassay of E. citriodora oil at 5 ppm concentration was found to be more effective for weed suppression than aqueous extract concentrations. The study suggests an eco-friendly method to suppress the weed population and effective management in weed control.

Invasive species (weeds) contribute to great losses in crop productivity, and one of the strategies for controlling their distribution in the field involves the use of herbicides. However, the development of new formulations for the control of weeds is challenged by environmental issues, increases in the resistance of weeds to herbicides, and poor selectivity of herbicides towards invasive species.

The aqueous and organic extracts of the roots, stems, phyllodes, flowers, legumes, and seeds of Acacia cyanophylla Lindl. were assayed at different concentrations to assesstheir allelopathic potential. The extracts were tested on the seeds of 2 crops (Triticum aestivum L. and Lactuca sativa L.) and 2 weeds (Peganum harmala L. and Silybum marianum L.) species.
